I understand Compassion does not "facilitate" adoptions. Can you clarify if Compassion kids are ever up for adoption through outside programs? We sponsor 12 kids and we are looking into adoption now that we found out we can't have our own. I noticed in the new app many of our sponsored kids are now in single parent homes or being cared for by other caregivers.

Hi Michael! We greatly appreciate your heart to bring a sweet child in need into your home. As you may know, Compassion is a child development organization operating within the countries where Compassion-assisted children live. We want sponsored children to make a difference in their own homes, communities, cities and countries, and that is why we don’t facilitate adoption. We also do not know if any of the children attending the program are available for adoption. Sadly, it is quite common for children to lose one or both of their parents at a young age causing them to be raised by other family members. We have also had situations where children need to be placed in a loving home if they have no family to take care of them. Please know that in these situations, our wonderful and caring field staff ensures that each and every child is in a loving home and receiving the care they need. Compassion takes child protection matters very seriously. Every single staff member receives regular training on the protection of children from exploitation and abuse. If a staff member ever feels like a child is not living in a safe home, we do take the necessary steps to protect that child.

Thank you so much for the love you have for your children. Your support and loving letters are making a tremendous impact in their lives. Although we cannot help you in any way with your desire to adopt, we may know of some agencies that might. The following list contains the names of some reputable adoption agencies you may wish to contact.

-Bethany Christian Services, 1-800-Bethany, www.bethany.org (adopt children in the USA, Asia, Africa, Russia and Latin America).
-Christian World Adoption, 1-800-97adopt, www.cwa.org (adopt from China, Guatemala, Ethiopia, Russia, and the Ukraine).
-Children’s Hope International, 314-890-0086, www.childrenshopeint.org (Adopt from China, Vietnam, Russia, Colombia and Ethiopia).
