I was wondering, how many letters is too many. I would love to send them weekly, but if it were to get old for the child, then I could send fewer. Is weekly too much?

First I just want to say how great it is that you are excited about writing your child and I think ANY amount of letters will be appreciated and cherised by him/her.
I think most projects have letter day once a month so your child would be getting several letters at once if you write weekly. I don't think there is anything wrong with that necessarily, but I would consider your chid's age, their personality and wether or not this is something I could keep up long term. What happens if you write weekly for the first year or so and then tire of it and write considerably less. The child might wonder if they did something wrong.
Personally I've chosen to write one theme letter a month to all my kids that can be duplicated and I just personalize the greeting and closing. Then when I receive a letter from a child I will also respond to them that same week that I receive the letter. So typically I write 1-2 times a month to my child. Birthdays also are an extra letter that I write so once a year my kids will get up to 3 letters in one month. :-)

If you want to write weekly, do it! Your child will be so, so, so blessed by your letters and words of encouragement. Do keep in mind what Kristen said, try hard to keep up writing consistently. If you all the sudden stop writing for a bit, your child will likely think that they disappointed you or something.
I write 2-3 times a month, and I do believe that my kiddos love it! You really can't write too much :)

How often should I write my sponsored child?.

I am new to CI and am thrilled to be sponsoring a young lady (teenager) in Rwanda. I just finished preparing my first letter packet to her. I say "packet" because since she is an older child, I am creating decorative scrapbook-type pages -- yes, 8 1/2 x 11" -- with my letters incorporated into the pages (amongst 3D stickers, etc.) to make them more artistic and colorful. So, how often should I write to her, or does it matter?

How often is too often to write letters? I'd love to write to my little girl about once a month because I'm a letter-writing/picture-drawing junkie. :) I know she's only required to write back about six times (ish?), but I don't want her, her family, or the center staff to feel obligated to help her write back more than they're able to.
