Sponsored Child's siblings.

The child that I am sponsoring, I understand, has a sibling or two. Is it possible for me to sponsor the siblings as well. That way that family is not trying to keep track of multiple donors and I do not have to keep track of multiple families. How do I know if their sibling is in the program? And if they are in the program how do I find them in order to sponsor them?

Hi Chaniece! It looks like your sponsored child, Nandi is the only child in his family that is registered in Compassion's program.

The decision about how many children that can be sponsored per family is made by the local project leadership. Because the project leadership knows the needs of their community better than we do, we let them decide if it is better to have one sponsored child from many families rather than multiple children from one family. They are trying to effect as many families as possible through this program.  Be assured that Nandi's siblings will benefit indirectly by things he shares and by participating in our partner church activities. Our research has shown that when just one child is sponsored, twelve other people will benefit from that one child being sponsored. This includes family members as well as other people in the community.

You can bless this sibling by sending extra stickers and other paper items with your letter to Nandi. You may also bless the entire family by sending a family gift. You may give $25-$1,000 a year and designate it as a family gift. The project director will consult with the family about what their greatest need is and help them to purchase the item(s).

Is there a way to know if my sponsor child's siblings are being sponsored, too?.

I would like to know if my sponsor child's siblings are being sponsored already.
If not, is there a way to find out their information so I may possibly sponsor the siblings or find someone else who can?

Regrettably, since his sisters are not in Compassion's program, we do not have any information recorded on them. However, you are more than welcome to ask this in a letter to David! :)

Hello Terri! I just reviewed Wanza's profile and she does have a brother and 2 sisters. Wanza is the only child registered in our program. The decision about how many children that can be sponsored per family is made by the local project leadership. Although not in our program, your child's siblings will still benefit indirectly by things she shares and by participating in our partner church activities. You are also welcome but not obligated in any way, to send a gift for the entire family as well as encourage them in letters you send to Wanza :). Thank you for your care and concern for her family members!

Hi Emily, I understand Compassion tends to sponsor only child from a family to cover more children from different families. But what happens when the unsponsored siblings also want to attend the Church or CDC's program activities? Can they join in as well though they are not sponsored?

Hi Chak! Yes, we do have siblings that participate in some of the center's activities. All of our centers are at churches, so often the whole family is involved in activities there. Obviously, siblings would not receive all of the benefits of the program directly but their sponsored brothers or sisters will often share what they can.

I need to find out if there is a way to find the older sister of one of my sponsored children? I have the name of the child but I do not have her child number. I have already checked the websites, Is there a way to find out if she is in the system?

Hello Matthew! Thank you so much for your care and concern for your child's sibling :). We appreciate that you're not only impacting your child's life but also investing in the family as well! I see that you spoke with one of our representatives this morning regarding Marisela's sister. Although she is not registered in Compassion's program, you are certainly welcome to bless her with words of encouragement when you write to Marisela. Please let me know if I am able to help you further.

Does my child have a sibling that can also be sponsored?.

Hi Meg! Welcome to the Compassion family :). I see that you just began sponsoring Shema this month and I am so excited that he now has a loving sponsor to encourage him and motivate him to become all he can be! I merged your inquiry into this conversation because you have a question similar to one that other sponsor's have had. Susan explains in detail about siblings being sponsored in the 'official response' above.

Regrettably, Shema's sister is not registered in our program and thus, she is not available for sponsorship at this time. I apologize for this inconvenience however, your friend is welcome to contact us and we would be happy to find her a child in Shema's same project that she can sponsor! After looking in our database, as of today we have three children in that project still waiting for sponsor's :). Thank you both so much for your generous and loving hearts towards children!

Hi Kay! Thank you so much for sponsoring sweet Shahida! It looks like you have sponsored two children at the same center. How fun! Shahida's brother is not registered in Compassion's program, so regrettably, he is not available for sponsorship. However, please know that your sponsorship of Shahida really does end up benefiting her whole family and other people in her community.

So glad I found this thread, we're new to sponsoring and I recall seeing our sponsored child info saying there are 2 children in the home (although I don't seem to see it under her sponsorship info now in my account).  Can you let me know if her sibling is in the program and if not, can you let me know if she has a brother or sister?  I want to send a few extra things for the other sibling if they are not sponsored (and even if they are)...   Her name is Jomayli (PE5950051).  Thanks so much.

Good morning Gary! Jomayli has one brother but he is not in the program. Because he is not in our program, we don't have any further information on him but you're still welcome to still send an encouraging note to him along with your letters to Jomayli. I know that would make him feel very special. Thanks for being so thoughtful! :)

Emily or Susan, I was looking to find out if Pablo's sisters are sponsored. I was also wondering if you could let me know how many sponsors/correspondence that Lidia has had in the past, when she was first sponsored and forward along any past photos on file! Thank you so so much!

Good morning, Raechel!

Neither of Pablo's sisters are registered in our program but I want to encourage you that they benefit indirectly by your sponsorship of Pablo through the things he brings home, the words you write in your letters to him, family activities they're welcome to attend at the center, and the knowledge and education he learns and teaches to his family :).

Our records show that Lidia has had two financial sponsors total and one other correspondent in the past. She was registered into our program in March of 2005 and was first sponsored in March of 2006. I just sent you an email with her precious pictures. Enjoy!

Does the rule apply that only one child per family may be sponsored?
Photo of Susan

Susan

Jenn, are you asking about your children specifically? Let me also explain our rule a little further. We have a global rule that no more than three children per family may be registered in to our program. Some of our countries have limited even further so that just one child per family may be registered. The idea is that we want to spread the life-changing benefits of the Compassion program across as many families as possible. As far as being sponsored, we look for a sponsor as soon as the child is registered. Once they are registered, they may be sponsored.

I understand why the project typically only have 1 child per family. I am wondering a couple things though:
1) How is that once child chosen? Is it usually by the family who to send/register?
2) I am concerned that the other siblings may feel bad or upset that they are not included in going to the project--do you have any info on how the siblings react to this?
3) how does the project help out the families of the children they serve?

Hi Stephanie! The project leadership will work with the family to decide which child is to be enrolled in the program. It may be as easy as your child was the only one in the family who was at the right age to be registered in the program. Your second concern is absolutely valid. I struggled with that same concern for a while as well. Be assured that the siblings will benefit indirectly by things the sponsored children share and by participating in our partner church activities. I think we tend to think the siblings feel upset that they weren't the child picked, because we don't see how much the sponsorship actually does affect the whole family. Honestly, the children share every word that you write in your letters, they share the knowledge they learn, and the siblings get to attend the project for special celebrations or family classes. They aren't completely left out at all. Once I learned the names of my child's siblings and their ages, I started to intentionally send extra stickers, notes, and prayers for each and every child in the family :). That alone can remind them that they are treasured too, even if they aren't your sponsored child.

Hi Cheyanne! I merged your inquiry into this conversation so that you can see a detailed explanation of how we register children and their families into our program, in Susan's response above. In regards to your kiddos; Johann does have siblings. He has two brothers but neither of them are registered in Compassion's program. Your Luis also has siblings, two brothers and a sister but neither of them are registered in our program. It's very common for only one child in a family to be registered in our program so that we can meet the needs of as many families in an area as possible.
