Hi, I recently picked up a packet at my church camp to sponsor a child from Bolivia. There was a representative from Compassion International who took my packet and credit card information. I have had no email, or letter, or contact from the Compassion company since. I haven't gotten any of my sponsor numbers or anything like that so i could access my childs information. The only number i have is my kids child number. I don't know how to begin my sponsorship. When do i know when to begin sending letters, or when my money begins to help my child, or even when my money begins to be taken? Im confused about the lack of communication. I wish i was contacted more to be walked through this, as this is my first sponsorship and I'm not feeling too confident about it. Im also a little concerned because i don't want to have just given my credit card info to a company and not get any feedback about when it will be used and when it will benefit my chid. So far the experience hasn't been the best for me and i wish things were different.

Alex, thank you so much for blessing a child with sponsorship! The wonderful Compassion staff who monitor this forum will get back to you after the long weekend. I am a sponsor just like you, but hopefully I can put your mind somewhat at ease. When you sponsor at an event, like your camp, it takes several weeks for the sponsorship to be processed. You should be hearing something within a few weeks. God bless!

I know you'll hear from Compassion staff when they are back in the office Tuesday, but I just want to encourage you and tell you that you've done a wonderful thing by choosing to sponsor a child through Compassion. I have sponsored through Compassion for twenty years now & it is a life-changing experience not just for your child, but for you! The words of hope you'll write to your child will reinforce what your child is learning at the Compassion project & let your child know someone clear across the world loves him (or her). It does take some time after an event to process the new sponsorships and get everything started, and it sounds like you are eager to get going! The Compassion staff are very helpful & responsive & will address your concerns once they see the message you posted. Meanwhile, I encourage you to explore the Compassion website, blog, and Facebook page. You'll learn so much about the programs, how your money is spent, how Compassion is supporting your child and introducing your child to Jesus. There are pages on the website for new sponsors that may answer many of your questions. And if you are concerned about the company's integrity, check out the charity watchdog group called Charity Navigator to see that Compassion has consistently ranked very high among charitable organizations for financial accountability. They are a good organization, and You are making an eternal investment in the life of that precious child! God bless you!

Alex, I also want to encourage you!  We began sponsoring a child a year ago, and now sponsor several children.  It has been an amazing experience and I am excited for you!
