Hello, I just recently began sponsorship and wrote my child my first letter. Her information states that she likes art and likes to draw. I mentioned in the letter that I was going to send her some colored pencils and paper ...then I checked the gift-giving guidelines (which I should've done before) and believe I am not allowed to send colored pencils. Is this correct? Thank you for your time,

Laura Harter

You can send the paper, but not the pencils.  All sent items need to be made of paper.  If you find someone going to her country though, they are able to bring other gifts for your child and mail them to her from in her own country.  You are also welcome to send a child financial gift of which 100% goes to your child.  With that gift you can make a suggestion that she purchase "art supplies" with it, but in the end it is up to the child, project, and family if they decide something else is more needed and choose not to follow the suggestion.  (From what I've seen, most the time they do use it, but there's just no guarantee)

Hi Laura! That is so sweet and thoughtful of you to want to send her colored pencils because she likes to draw! I wish we could send them, but regrettably, as Teresa Dawn said, everything we send has to be paper. However, each of our student centers have coloring supplies that the children can use. You might consider sending coloring pages and drawing tutorials. I be that would be fun for her! :)

Thank you, Susan!  I will remember to explain in my next letter to her that unfortunately, I can not send her colored pencils, but I will send her a coloring book that meets the shipping specifications.
Thanks to both you and Teresa.  :-)
