I sponsor a child who is 5 years old from Tanzania. I have been sponsoring her for 1.5 years and really love corresponding with her. However, I feel like if I was a parent and my child was writing with an adult across the world, I would like to know something about them. So I'm curious if there is a way to write a short letter to her parents just to introduce myself?

Thank you so much for any help you can offer!

You can address the parents in the letter to your child. Many of my little ones have a parent being the one who writes their letters -- and may well have access to read the letters you have written.  I imagine there is a lot of trust of the parents of children in the program that their churches will keep them safe -- just like we trust the teachers we send our children off to. But I also can't imagine the church program, even those that keep the letters at the program, NOT allowing a guardian access to the letters if they want to see them.

I had thought about asking a similar question, but since this post is so recent I will piggy-back on it.  We are planning a trip to Ecuador and Peru to visit our sponsored children.  Is it permissible to get input from the parents for an individual visit?  On our second visit to Luciana (Peru) her father made it a point to invite us five times to visit their house for our next visit.  (Also, he is employed and had to take off work to meet us.)  On the other hand, Gabriela (Ecuador) would rather meet us somewhere fun, than to visit at her house.

Hi Steve,
These are great questions! I would ask that you send a quick email to visits@compassion.com and they can help you more in depth and maybe even set some things up while you are there! :) Hope you have a wonderful trip!
