We were wondering if it is possible to choose the gift for the child we sponsor? I saw these great shoes and would love to get him a pair. They would be perfect for a growing boy. See link below.

I'm not staff, but I can help you with that.
It is not possible because when you send a gift they use the money to purchase gifts locally.  The child and his/her family, with the project staff, decide what the child needs best and buying locally helps the child's community.  That being said there IS one way.  If you can purchase the item and mail it to your child's country office from inside your child's country.  (Or bring it to your child yourself if you can visit your child.)  If you join the correspondent facebook group (staff an approve you.)  you can sometimes find posts from people travelling to your child's country who are willing to bring items and mail them for you.  I've sent many gifts to my kids through travelling sponsors this way.

Compassion Correspondents. It's a secret group that Compassion staff run so you probably can't see it to search but staff will add you if you post here or contact them by email or on facebook to say you want to join :)

Please add me and my daughter. My 13 year old wanted to sponsor a child, she picked her, but I pay for her :-) So we consider Peninia as OUR sponsored child.

We look forward to having you both in the group :) Just a heads up, it'll probably be Monday before staff adds you since they close on weekends, but once in awhile they surprise us by doing stuff on the weekends so you never know haha!

Terri, I sent you an invite via email this morning. I'm not able to add you any other way because Facebook won't let us do that unless we are friends on there. Let me know if you have trouble finding the email!

@Terri, that's weird, for some reason maybe Compassion's emails aren;t getting through to you.
I sent you a friend request on facebook, I'm not staff so feel free to ignore if you want aren't comfortable with that, but if you accept it I can invite you to the group and then it'll alert staff I believe and they just have to hit "Approve".  (You could always delete me after if you want)  Once you are in the group you should be able to invite your daughter into the group the same way.

Terri & Mya, I tried to add you again this morning with the email address you gave on this forum. I cannot add you directly through Facebook though. Please check your junk mail and let me know if you receive the invitation. You can also be added the way Teresa invited you :).

I found the invite email in my Gmail account. The problem is I use my Hotmail account for my Facebook email. Can you send me an invite at chardonay227@hotmail.com?

Terri & Mya, did  you do this from the invite from Teresa or the one from Compassion via email to one of the emails we sent you? Have you tried it on a computer as well or just your phone?

Helgita, is your email address on this Get Satisfaction page the same email address you have for your Facebook account? That is the address we sent it to. It could be in your junk or your spam folder.

Hi David! Thank you so much for your heart to provide your boy with a pair of shoes! Though they look super cool, Compassion is sadly not able to send these on to your child through the mail due to high custom taxes and the risk of theft as they are going through customs in your child's country. As Teresa mentioned, you are welcome to send a physical gift along with another sponsor who may be visiting your child's country. We'd be happy to give you more details on that if the opportunity arises for you!

Those shoes do seem cool. I'd definitely link up with the Facebook group of sponsors. This could be a really cool thing to send with a sponsors who are going on tour. Maybe even something they would all want to take for their own kids.

I'll be going to visit a few Compassion centers this month and have arranged with Compassion to take a bag of shoes with me for the kids in that country, donated by generous folks in my church.  The shoes will be entrusted to the appropriate in-country coordinator, who will know the needs in ways that I can't.  I am a little anxious about customs, as I clearly will not be taking 63 pairs of shoes for personal use :)
