Can we get more family information?

We have found it difficult to manage a family gift. We guessed an amount that would be significant with no knowledge about what this Mama would really like to do in terms of an income generating proposition. It would have been very helpful to ask Mama for different options she would be interested in pursuing and providing us an approximate cost. I hate to think that her choice was dictated by our choice. Would $100 more have changed the outcome? We simply have no idea.
We also struggle with paper items we can send the child. Does this child have crayons or colored pencils? If not, coloring sheets don't make much sense. How do we know?
More specific information would be very valuable in our decision making, if it would be possible.

Your child will have crayons/ markers at their Compassion Project. If you want to make sure they have their own you can send a "child gift" and specify that you want them to have art supplies purchased.  I did this for two of our sponsored children and they verified that they were able to get the colored markers we wanted them to have for coloring.

As to the family gift, each family has a case worker who will meet with them to discuss the best use of the money. You can make a suggestion such as you want it to be income generating. One of our families purchased a cow, another repaired a hurricane damaged home, another added a room for the sponsored child, another child got a bicycle, another family used the money for the mother's medical needs. You don't know in advance but I have found that the family gifts were always used in a responsible way.  Bless you for your giving heart!

Hi Beth! I can tell you care about Gianella's family very much and want them to be taken care of :). Regrettably, Compassion doesn't keep a list of the individual needs of each family with a child registered in the program, but Frances is correct when she says that a case worker from the project who works with Gianella will sit down with her family to help them decide how they can best utilize the generous gift you sent to provide for their needs. I can tell you that the amount you sent for her family will be a significant help to them, and I cannot wait for you to receive the thank you letter and photo showing you what they were able to purchase. I do believe that God placed the specific amount you sent on your heart for a reason and that he will use that generosity to bless Gianelle's family in incredible ways and more than you may have thought possible :).

As Frances also mentioned, Gianelle will also have access to crayons and colored pencils at the Compassion center as well as other school supplies like scissors etc. I've personally been able to sit down with kids at these centers and color pictures with them. Please feel free to continue sending coloring pages with your letters as I know Gianelle will continue to enjoy receiving them!
