The most recent letter I received from my child Amal in India states near the beginning, "He went to his cousin's home, so the project staff write the letter on behalf of him."

The letter is quite lengthy, and has a lot of detail on what is going on in his life. (Which is very typical of his letters).  He is referred to in the third person throughout it, and in a couple spots it will start the sentence with "He says", or "He states".  So it appears that he had input into it.  I'm just wondering how that works if he wasn't actually there.  Did he tell them what he wanted to say before he left, and then they wrote it for him on letter writing day?

Hi Jamie! I can see how this could be puzzling. To help make a little more sense of things, let me explain a little bit of the letter writing process. The children have to write a reply letter within sixty days of when they receive a letter from their sponsor. They also have to write two regular letters a year and not let more than six months go by between the letters. For this reason, our centers have dates scheduled for when each of the children have to write either a reply letter or a regular letter. If your sponsored child happened to be visiting family in another area, and a scheduled letter was due before they would return, the staff may have needed to write the letter on his behalf. The staff are closely acquainted with each child and they probably wrote this letter from what they knew of him or knew he would want to say to you. If the center staff mention him being gone long term, please let us know so we can check into it.
