I got a letter that my child's development center is not meeting standards so my funds are not being sent there.  When this happens, are the children advised why?  I don't want her to think I abandoned her.

Jane, Shena will certainly not think that you abandoned her, especially because you can continue to write to her and she will still write to you during this period of probation. The children are not made aware when there are financial difficulties, such as a probation period or when a sponsor does not make a contribution for a few months, so Shena will not know that your funds are not being sent to the student center for now. The children usually do not realize that there is a probation going on because they continue to attend the center and it runs as if nothing has changed. It's really just a period of time when the staff is monitored a bit more closely and are provided with additional training when needed. Please let me know if you have more questions about this! I do want to encourage you to keep writing to Shena and keep her and her student center in your prayers :).
