Hi! I just received a letter from my little boy, he reported that he recently went to the doctor because he wasn't feeling well, his diagnosis was worms & poor hygiene. That is so heartbreaking & such a reality check. My question is, are we allowed to provide financial support to pay for treatment? I'm not sure if he was given meds or not, but my heart aches for him. Thanks!

Michelle, I am so sorry for the recent letter that you received from Irakoze. My heart also breaks for your little guy and I pray that he recovers very soon! This is the very reason however, that provide medical care for your child and the opportunity to go to the doctor, so that we can catch these types of things and provide him with assistance. Compassion has a medical assistance fund that the project staff can use for your boy to pay for the costs of any medication and doctor visits he may need. It's very likely that the project staff is already on top of it and providing him with the care that he needs to recover. I also want to encourage you that as part of the program, your boy is taught about proper hygiene and the importance of proper nutrition.

In these types of situations, you're always welcome to send a family gift ($25-$1000) or child gift ($10-$100) and make a note that you would like it to be used to assist your child with his health issues. Ultimately, they will take your suggestion into consideration and use the gift for the greatest need at that time.

I would actually like to contact our staff in Rwanda to see if he is already receiving treatment for the worms. So that our staff can provide us with the best assistance, can you please send us a copy of the letter you received from your child? You can send it to socialmedia@compassion.com. Once I receive your child's letter, I will send an inquiry to our office.
