I just received packets of the two children I sponsor, one of the names on the packet was wrong

You might check inside. A lot of time kids have nick names and legal names that aren't related to each other.. The nicknames will be used in some places but the full legal name is still in the packet.

As Sarah said, many of our kiddos do have nicknames and multiple names that they go by. Here is what I have for your kiddos:

Joany Joseph goes by Elias 
Noel Stanley Meshack goes by Noel.

Thanks, but I find it weird that a girl goes by “Elias”.

Hi Noël! I agree that some children have some interesting nick names. I'm not sure why Joany goes by Elias, but I encourage you to ask her in your next letter! That would be a great question for her!

Sometimes names can be weird to our sensibilities. My Jonah in Uganda is a girl.
