I did a potential sponsor search today for young people age 14-22 anywhere in the world. The result of the search suggests only 8 available, all males ages 16-17. Is this accurate? Or is it indicative of an issue on my end, like I need to clear my cache or something?

Hi Debi, occasionally this happens because kids of all ages get rotated out to concerts and other venues so available students online varies from week to week and even day to day. Try www.compassion.com.au to see older students available on the Australia site. They frequently have older students. I have sponsored at least two of mine off that site. It takes a few weeks to have them transferred. The first time I sponsored someone I was able to set up an account immediately and write them a letter. Then I sent an email requesting they transfer the student to my account in the US.

Hi Debi! We currently have the very positive problem of having limited numbers of children available and quite a few events going on right now. You are welcome to check other partner country (Canada, United Kingdom, Australia, etc.) websites, as Denise mentioned, or simply keep checking until you see the child you would like to sponsor. I am trusting that maybe this is just God's way of making sure you end up with the exact precious little one that you are meant to sponsor. :)

Thanks, ladies! It does sound like a delightful "problem" to have :)
I'll keep looking, and will include the partner country sites in my searches.

About transferring -- If I were to begin a sponsorship through the AU site, could I send a Christmas letter by snail mail through the Colorado office immediately, or would I need to wait a bit for the student to be transferred to the USA?

Debi, I would recommend waiting until the transfer is complete (we will notify you when the child is on your account) to be sure that your letter goes through. Sometimes the transfer process can take several weeks.

I sent a transfer request by email on 10/22 at 5:54pm. I expect it to take time to complete the transfer process, though it would help to know the email was indeed received. Can you confirm this for me?

Hi Debi! We did receive your email and I responded to you on the 23rd. I'm so sorry if you didn't receive this! :( But rest assured that the transfer is in processing but will take a few days as you mentioned you're already aware of :). We'll let you know when it's complete!

Thanks, Emily! I'd forgotten to check my spam folder -- oops. The message has been found and I am now better equipped to wait patiently :)

Oh, okay great Debi! I'm glad you received it :). I actually resent it to you again as well before I saw this so you'll now have two copies ;).

Just checking in on this. Is four weeks still in the range of "several"?

Hi Debi! Regrettably, yes, four weeks is still in that range. Tranfers between country offices can actually take up to two months to complete. I am sure you are eager to see them on your US account! We will let you know as soon as the transfer is complete. :)

Okay -- one more question. The transfer is complete and first letters sent on my end. Now I am wondering whether an initial letter may have been sent while sponsored through Australia (began 10/23), or if that would have put on pause until after the transfer was complete (12/9). Any idea how this works?

Debi, none of your new kiddos had sent initial letters while this transfer was going on. Now that they are on your US account, they'll soon be writing to you. You're a trooper and a huge blessing to us! Thank you so much for hanging on while we completed that transfer and for already starting your correspondence with them :). They are going to absolutely love having you as a sponsor!

Debi, since this is your first time doing an Australian sponsorship you can probablyset up an account and write the Christmas on the Australian site. I don't think will take much longer (if any time) to transfer your student. I wrote a letter for my first student sponsored on the Australia site, now I think they know I am in the US. Just watch what the options are. Good luck!

I got 4 kids 13, 10, 5,4. I am married but we barely get $100 home per month. This has really affected  my children's basic needs including poor education. Please advice how to go about the program. Margaret, Kenya.

Hi Maragaret! I'm so sorry to hear that your family is struggling. You're such a good mother and I know that as parents, you and your husband want to see your children succeed and be well cared for. Our program registers children ages nine and under into our programs and so we may be able to help your younger children. Please email us at socialmedia@compassion.com and we will give you more information on finding sponsors for your children.
