Christmas is coming and I'm getting set to start sending out my gifts! Monetary gifts, that is, because I'm still woefully behind on letters due to my fantastic-at-the-time plan to make all the little ones paper 3D pumpkins. If my memory serves correct, which it often doesn't, I think I was told that monetary gifts get sent out together near the end of the month so if I were to pay a Christmas gift today, for example, it still wouldn't make it's way out until maybe the 31st or something- whenever the funds go out. Optimally I'd like to chip away at the kids monetary gifts so it's not one big hit to my wallet, but I also don't want the money to be going out all crazy-like at different times, especially when my letters are all off. Long story short, I'll be sending out their Christmas packages at the end of this month. Should I wait until then to put in all the monetary gifts, or is the scenario I gave earlier accurate such that I can put them in here and there over the month and they'll all go out together at the end anyway? Thanks, and sorry if this totally doesn't make sense. The joys of trying to quickly articulate while sneaking time on a computer at work...

Hi Lindsay!

Wow, those 3D pumpkins sound pretty cool! How fun! I am sure that your children will absolutely love them whenever they receive them! :)

First let me explain how the Christmas Gift Program works here at Compassion. We combine all Christmas gifts and distribute them equally among all of the children in our programs. This way, no child is left out. The deadline for giving to the Christmas Gift Program or Christmas Fund is always October 31. You can also send family gifts or child gifts specifically for your child at this time of the year.

Monetary gifts take about 7-12 weeks to be delivered, and letters take about 2-3 months to be delivered. It is roughly the same time frame but maybe a little faster to send a monetary gift. This is why, unless you are giving to the Christmas Fund, I would recommend sending your gifts and letters as soon as possible at this point but definitely before October 31. As I am writing this, I'm thinking to myself how much I really need to get some Christmas letters out to my own sponsored children. I better get on that!
