This is now available for Android and iOS! Thanks to all who have made this possible! Great to see faces of my children whenever I want, and photos of their development centers for the first time! Hope we can share comments and ideas about the app here and those behind it can get the feedback.

I just downloaded the android app on my phone and tablet! This is totally cool to be able to write my kids from the app! Also to see other basic information about my kids without having to go to my laptop and pull up the website! Way to go!

It still doesn't work for me. The app is as useless as a poop flavored lollipop. Seriously. :( I am upset, because it sounds like a really cool app. But, i will never know I guess. :(

Yes. Maybe you could email problem, OS details, phone model, etc to developer's contact on the app store.

I understand that you're frustrated, Kimberly :(. I'm sorry that it's still not working for you. I advised our Web Team of the issues that you're having and we are working on solutions and troubleshoots to correct these errors. Please also make sure that you're using the most updated Android version 4.0 or up. Thank you for your patience and we hope to have these bugs fixed soon because I really think you're going to love this app once you're able to use all of it's new functions! :)

Hi Kimberly! I'm actually behind the times and I don't have a smartphone but I will say that it does look like a very cool app from what I've seen. I know that there are a lot of different kinds of these Android phones with different operating systems and I imagine that it is very hard to have the app working on all of them when it is first released because the app might work perfectly on one phone but not work on another because of some small detail in the computer code and it probably takes a while to sort all that out. Just remember that we are all on the same team here and that this app is someone's hard work and they are our brothers or sisters in Christ so lets show them the same courtesy that we would like to be shown and try to be patient and supportive of them while they figure this out. I'm sure that Compassion has some very smart people working on these apps and they are probably under a lot of pressure right now to get these issues fixed as soon as possible.

The app is working great on my Samsung Galaxy 4, I even found out via the app that my sponsored child does best in math and I don't even see that on the website..  nice!  Haven't tried the letter function yet, but awesome idea!

I had a new child added to my account this morning. When I checked through the app, the new child was not listed. I ended up having to log out of the app and then log back in. Is that normal or is there a way to refresh the app so that it's pulling the most up-to-date information?

Hi Jason! Yes, this is what we are recommending to people who cannot view their children on the mobile app. Thanks for pointing that tip out to help others! :)

The "write" feature does not work. It gives a message saying "receiving drafts" and that's it. I use android.

I used the "write your child" feature today on my Nexus 5 running android 5.1. I was able to compose my message and add pictures and send. My only complaint was that once my message got below the keyboard, it was out of sight so I was typing blind. It didn't scroll down as i wrote, but i had to minimize the keyboard occasionally to check for errors.

Kristi,
That is exactly the experience I had with the write feature of the app. I had to type very carefully. I also had to hit the back key to back out the keyboard every once a while to check my letter. I hope that Compassion can fix that in the future.

This is really great feedback, Jason and Kristi! I'm glad to hear the writing tool is working for typing and uploading photos but we definitely don't want you typing blind! I have passed this along to our web team in hopes that this can be quickly fixed on the app :). Thank you so much for continuing to help us improve this new tool!

Jason and Kristi, I was informed that this issue was addressed and fixed in our previous update 2.0.12. Have you checked the version you're running and verified that you're using the latest update? Hopefully this will fix your problem in future letters you write using the app!

Emily,
i checked the version I have. It says 2.0.12 under my app manager. I am still getting the same problem with the write where i have the keyboard in my way.

Also, on my tablet, I tried to relog into my compassion account on the app. When I entered my username and password i see a message that says there's an error occurred while it was trying to load.

I just used the app this morning to write a letter. It went well for the first few lines. Then my keyboard got in the way of the letter on my Samsung Galaxy S5 android phone. I was unable to move the letter box up. So I could see what I was writing. Also, i was trying to paste some scripture into the letter and every time i pressed and held in a spot the keyboard came back up, not an option to paste text.

Could you guys take a look at this and maybe offer some suggestions!

Thanks,
Jason

Susan, would you check for me also? I wrote a letter for Lea on 4/13 as well using the app and it says it went through and shows up on my web acct as well as if it were sent. Since Jason is having issues, I thought it would be good to check. Lea's number is RW-3890136.

Jason, I see that Susan called and spoke with you yesterday and clarified concerns you had about letters you have sent to your children. I apologize that there was any confusion. Just to verify, we did receive your letter to Kevin that you wrote yesterday via the online writing tool and you do not need to re send it. Please let us know if there is still any confusion in regards to letters you have sent to your children.

Sally, I checked your account and your letter to Leah did go through and is processing through our system :). She will be excited to hear from you. Thanks for using the letter writing tool on the app!

Emily,
I am clear about what is sent to my boys. I did do a letter today for Amanuel.

I do have another question, what is Compassion's policy about sending video's or getting videos from my boys? I am in a position where me visiting them at some point would be very hard. I have a lot of challenges gor me for that yo happen.

Hi Jason! I hear that you really want to connect with your boys. Thank you for your heart for them! Regrettably, we do not have a way of sending videos for the children at this time. Translation and child safety are difficult with videos sent from sponsors. I did work with one sponsor who created a YouTube channel for videos to her child and then sent a letter with the link. This would need to be in countries and areas that have good internet access. I think the child was located in Indonesia where we knew there was internet. The staff were able to view the videos before hand to make sure they were appropriate for the child. You can see all that went into this type of an arrangement and possibly begin to see why it would not work in all areas. We are, however, looking to provide much quicker forms of communication between sponsors and children. I sincerely hope that these new communication channels will really help to connect you with your sponsored children, even though a visit may not be possible.

Susan,
I do appreciate that response. With me being in a wheelchair, actually going to some of these places to see the boys would be such a challenge for me that it may be physically too hard for me, even if I could raise the money. I would really love to have them if videos or things like that were ever possible in those areas. I guess for now, I will just keep on writing to the boys i have and the ones that I get in the future. I really love the Correspondent program that Compassion has, and I will definitely keep getting new people from the list. It's so easy for me to write them and pray for them.

I am happy to report that I was able to download the app today and use it to write a letter to my little girl. Pretty nifty. I was hoping to find a picture of my child's center, but there isn't one. Just a map that shows the weather and time. Hopefully, in time they will be able to add a photo of the center. I imagine that will be a huge undertaking!I had added her location to my weather app on my iphone so I could see what it's like where she is. So I think that is a nice feature. Hopefully, in time, they will be able to add a photo of her center. I imagine that will be a huge undertaking!

Hey, just checked with a friend that has 31 kids, and only 8 of her kids have project pictures, one has a both inside and outside, so Gary and Sally, do you only have one kid or is this happening on many kids?

We have two children that we communicate with. When we sponsor one we correspond with.. Neither one has a picture of their center. One little girl is in row Wanda and the other in Togo. I think it will just take time to get photos of all the centers ready, but I imagine in time they will be available. As someone else mentioned, it did say what one of the girls best subjects in school was. But not the other.

Hi everyone! I just wanted to give you all an update on how things are going with fixing these issues. We are pushing an update to the Android app this morning that should be live in Google Play by 12PM Mountain Time. This update should fix the big Android issues with the login and the app crashing. As always, please let us know if you have any more feedback as we are continuing to work through bugs with the app.

Please be nice, Kimberly. I realize this is a support forum but there is no reason that we cannot be kind to one another in the process of getting our problems resolved. I am sorry that the app is still not working on your phone, but please show these ladies the respect they deserve and be courteous to them.

I am being nice. I am also getting A tad aggitated. Because it's fixed for everyone else, but, it's still not coming through for me. I'm noT mad. I'm just aggitated. And I am being patient. They told us to tell them if it worked. I'm doing that, what else do you want from me?

I don't want anything from you Kimberly. Just remember what we are doing here. We releasing children from poverty in the name of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, and what we do for His kingdom and the way we treat each other along the way are really the only things that matter in this life. Let's don't get distracted and fight and argue with one another over details and things that aren't going to matter when we get to heaven and see Jesus face to face. I am sorry that you're agitated and I'm sorry if I've offended you. I am praying for the app to be fixed for your phone. God bless you, Kimberly.

Kimberly, is it possible you have a very old version of a phone?  I was just talking to a good friend that I gave my first Ipad to, the original Ipad, and she was saying how so many apps don't work on the old thing anymore.  Is it possible the Compassion app just isn't going to work on an old operating system?  Of course, I don't know if you have an old operating system or not.  Just throwing this out as an idea of why you might be having problems.

The individuals who are seeing pics of their center, do you see those when you log into Compassion.com website and go to your sponsored child?  The reason I'm asking is my Compassion.com web account doesn't show a picture of her center, so is this another feature the smartphone app has that the website does not?  Look forward to the app getting more mature, I feel for the developers (being a coder/website db guy myself) and the hundreds of phones they have to support...

Hi everyone! I apologize for the confusion. I was incorrect when I said that each center will have a photo. Regrettably, we do not currently have photos of all of our centers. This means that not all child development centers will show a photo on the app, but the photos will show when we have them. If further down the line we receive a photo of your child's center, it will show up on the app. Thanks for asking this question! :)

Thanks for the update Susan, my suggestion would be if a sponsor visits their child and there is no center pic showing on their app, perhaps they could send a picture of the center to Compassion so it could be placed on the app?

Kimberly, http://geekaphone.com/compare/LG-G2-vs-Samsung-Galaxy-S4 shows our two phones are really close to the same specs.  Hopefully that means it won't take much app tweaking to get it to work on your phone.  :-)

Yea. The stories are always the same. And it's as if it doesn't connect to the website or the compassion servers. So I get an error because of it. I just realised yesterday that the stories have never changed. And it talks about April 7th being 2 days away. So... it's just not connecting. So it's definitely a server issue. Once the connection to the server is fixed, I'm pretty sure it will work on my phone.

Hey everyone! I have another update regarding the new app for Android and iPhone. Thank you for your patience! For sponsors with a large number of children that cannot see some or all of them when
logging into the app, we have been working on this and are testing a new update to try and resolve that issue.

For iPhone users, we are waiting for Apple to approve another update that we just pushed out and it might take a couple of days. This should also fix log-in issues and iPhone users still experiencing crashes. Stay tuned for more updates as we receive them and I pray you see improvements with these most recent fixes!
