I live in New Jersey, and on June 12, 2016, I sent a $20 check enclosed in a Compassion birthday card for my sponsored child to Compassion International in Colorado Springs, Colorado. I called Compassion on June 22, 2016, and they said they have not received the check. What is wrong with Compassion International? Compassion advised me to send the check in June for my sponsored child's birthday, which is in August . . . and now they can't find the check!! What is really going on!!??? Very dissatisfied with Compassion International! I want this problem resolved so that my sponsored child doesn't think that I forgot her or ignored her on her fifth birthday! What a terrible thing to do to a five-year-old child. Compassion - find that birthday card with the $20 check inside!!!!!!! Totally upset, Carolyn Hayes Sponsor Number:3888969-0

Carolyn, first of all thank you for blessings your sponsored child with your support and a birthday gift. I a sponsor also; the great folks who monitor this forum will answer you tomorrow. Compassion is a huge organization that receives tons of mail each day and it takes time to process all the letters and gifts received. It is also possible that it has not even arrived at Compassion yet; as I have experienced almost a month of transit time between the east coast and CO at times. I would suggest you give it another week or so and check back with Compassion to allow adequate time for arrival and processing. God bless!

Carolyn, I, too, am another sponsor. I understand your frustration, but it is very possible that Compassion never received your check. I have personally experienced several instances of mail not arriving at its destination, or getting lost and showing up much later than would be expected. Does Compassion show record of the birthday card? No matter where the card and check are, we need to remember that people who work in both the postal system and Compassion are human just like us, and we need to extend them the same grace that we would want. If you're concerned about the check, you could always do a stop pay and issue another one or make the gift online. I'm sure your child will be delighted that you thought of her and remembered her birthday, even if the card does arrive late.

Carolyn, I am so sorry that this situation has caused you to be dissatisfied and distrust Compassion :(. I double checked your account today, but I don't see the $20 check or the birthday card having been processed yet. Like Heather said, we do receive thousands of pieces of mail a day that have to be sorted and then processed. Your check is most likely at our office in line to go through processing, but I can't check that for sure without the check number. I know you didn't have that available when you called, but if you can find it when you have a chance I would gladly research this for you. I am not in the office today, but you can email me with the check number at I'd be happy to speak to you over the phone tomorrow as well. Carolyn, we are very appreciative for your generous heart in sending a birthday gift to  Ashley. We know how important those birthday gifts are to sponsors and what a joy and blessing they are for the children!
