I took the packet of a child to sponsor from the Compassion Sunday table that was at my church. When I asked the gentleman who was at the table about the form inside that needed returned, he referred me to this website. The form says to return to the Compassion Sponsorship Booth by 5/18/2012, and I see no where on here to register with the information for the child in the packet. Please let me know how I can register to sponsor this child.

I just tried to sponsor a child from Peru through my church, and I did everything (contact and payment info) and got all the way through. I never got a confirmation email and I'm not sure if it went through or not...

Hi James! Welcome to the Compassion family :). Thank you so much for sponsoring a kiddo in Peru! When you made your first donation online, you definitely should receive a confirmation email so I am wondering if part of your email address was transposed when it was being entered or if there was a glitch on the website somehow. I definitely want to check on this for you :). Can you provide me with your child's reference ID? It will start with two alpha letters. It could take about twenty-four hours for your sponsorship to be finalized and for your information to show up in our system and so it may still be in processing.

I attended chapel that talked about Compassion International and was moved to sponsor a young girl from Rwanda.  I received an information card at the sponsor table about the young girl, filled out my information and gave it back to the compassion staff that was there.  For some reason, I can not find the child on the compassion website.  It says that the ID for her that was given on the card does not exist. Does this mean that the child is no longer in the program? Please help!

Chloe, thank you so much for sponsoring a young lady in Rwanda with us! She will be so excited to find out that the wait is over for her to find a loving sponsor :).

The child you sponsored will not be on the website because we don't want her to be sponsored by anyone else while we add her to your account. Please rest assured that if you turned your information into the volunteer at your chapel, we will process your sponsorship. It can take a couple of weeks for us to receive your information from the Compassion event and set up an account for you in our system. Once this is done, we will mail you information on your new sponsorship and further instructions :).

How long does it take to be processed as a sponsor? I noticed that the child I have has a birthday coming up and I really don't want to miss it if possible. I am anxious to get started.

Hi Kaishauna! I loved seeing 'excited' as your emotion because that is our hope for our new sponsors! Welcome to the Compassion family! :)

I tried to look you up in our system and I wasn't able to find you. This means that your sponsorship hasn't been finalized yet. I'm not sure how you found your child but if you signed up online, it could take about twenty-four hours for your sponsorship to be finalized and for your information to show up in our system. If you signed up at an event, it could take two to four weeks for your sponsorship to be finalized. You are welcome to get the process going by making the first donation at www.compassion.com/firstpayment. You will just need your child's reference number :). This will allow you to create an online account with us and make a donation for your child's birthday gift.

Just to note however, it takes 2-3 months for all gifts to be delivered to your kiddo. If it gets to them a little late, please don't worry as we will still tell them it is a special gift from you for their special day :). It will mean the world to your child that you thought of them on their birthday, thank you!

Hi Emily!  Thank you so much for your response!  I am excited!!  I did sign up at an event on Friday, 4/17/15.  I'm bummed it's going to take so long.  I already sent in that initial information brochure that comes with the child's envelope.  If I do the first payment and my sponsor card finally gets processed, does that mean there will be a double payment?  This child's birthday is May 20th and I really wanted to send a birthday card.  Would I be able to do this?  I've been on the website trying to read as much as I can about all the things we can do for our sponsored child and I really want to get started.

Thank you again!!  I'm very excited.  The Lord has been putting this ministry on my heart for a while, and it seems I couldn't get away from the nudging everywhere I went and then an opportunity presented itself to me on Friday to do it.  I've been praying for that sweet little girl ever since.

God Bless,

Kai

Kaishauna, I'm sorry it takes a little longer than you'd hoped for us to receive and process your sponsorship :(. I know you're eager to begin and we will get you set up as quickly as possible. We're working on ways to make this process quicker for our sponsors in the future!

You're also welcome to call our office at (800) 336-7676 or email us with your contact information and child reference number and we'd be happy to get you started quicker this way as well and create a new sponsor identification number. I want to encourage you that you will not be charged twice if you make your first payment online or call/email us. Once you have your sponsor number, you can mail in a card to your child and include your sponsor number and child number so that we can ensure it's processed correctly. You will also be able to send a birthday card online by clicking 'Write My Child' on the left side of the page once you have created an account.

I am not able to create an account?  I began sponsorship over a month ago and haven't received any correspondence.  Is this normal?

The problem lies within the fact that nobody communicated this with me...it sucks. My church just hosted a child sponsorship fair in which compassion was present. I'll definitely be passing this along to my church as well as others. It's something to definitely consider when you look at your branding as a company because even though it's a great cause things like lack of communication in events like this causing heartbreak, for me and my daughter in this case, can cause big implications.

Thank you Adam for your response.  I agree with Amber, the issue is the lack of communication.  Someone should have reached out to me, but no one did.  I had to call to find out what was going on and that's when I was told.  It should be an easy fix if those who have the envelopes at events don't say things pertaining to that envelope being the ONLY record for that child or they should warn potential sponsors that the organization is moving as quickly as possible to find sponsors, and so use multiple mediums such as the envelopes and internet to secure them, which could mean a child not really being available to sponsor.  Otherwise, it looks like a "bait and switch" operation.  Communication is key here. But, Adam, I do appreciate your response so thank you!

I know, Amber. I know you're angry and hurt and I'm very sorry. No one is saying that you shouldn't be upset. Child sponsorship is a very delicate thing since there are so many emotions involved. You are entitled to your opinion, but I don't think disparaging Compassion in any way will serve any kind of good purpose. It's very unlikely that anyone you speak to would have the same experience as you. I'm not sure what happened in your situation but it sounds like Compassion might not have even received your information. I'm sure that if they had they would have contacted you. I'm very sorry. As far as branding goes, Compassion is the only organization of it's size that I know of that puts Jesus' name in their logo and at the heart of their mission statement. Personally, I want to support that in any way that I can because it's getting harder and harder to stand up for Christ in this world. God bless you, Amber.

You're welcome, Kaishauna. I'm sorry that no one communicated with you either. I agree that communication is very important and key. I know that Compassion doesn't intentionally make children available to sponsors in more than one place at a time and I'm sorry that happened to you. I guess all I'm really trying to say is that I believe that Compassion has the best of intentions and that they are doing the best that they possibly can while trying to also be good stewards of their resources.

Amber and Kaishauna, again I am so so sorry for the frustration that we have caused and the lack of communication in regards to the children you had originally signed up for. To clarify (this is not an excuse just a little behind the scenes information), we only allow one child packet for each child to be at an event at a time. If the child is listed online, they are  only listed online and are placed on hold for that particular sponsor for 30 minutes whenever someone clicks on their photo. Each of the children whose packets are sent to events are on hold for that event for only a set amount of time. If we receive the forms after the date that is printed on that packet, we make that child available for another event. If we receive a sponsor's information and they were trying to sponsor a child that has been accidentally sponsored by someone else, we will notify the sponsor as soon as possible and offer another similar child to sponsor. Regrettably, our systems are a little outdated (we are working on updating them now) and sometimes errors occur. In both of your cases, it looks like, due to errors in our system, we did not even receive your information for the sponsorship so we didn't even realize that you had sponsored those two particular children. It could have been that the form that you filled out at the event you were at was mailed to us and got lost in the mail. Again, I am so sorry that this happened to both of you and I would love it if there was a way we could make it up to you. However, if you choose to go elsewhere we know that there are many wonderful organizations that do great work for the Kingdom of God. That's what we are really about here.

I got my child's sponsor packet while at a christian camp called Crossroads run by Clayton King. I wanted more information on the program and see what I could do online to contact my sponsor child but while trying to create an account it said my records could not be found and I could not find my child on the site. Any help?

Hi Sierra! If you handed your packet in at the event or mailed it to us, it can take up to four weeks to process your sponsorship and get more information to you about your new kiddo. You won't see your child online as an available child for sponsorship because we only have each child in one location at a time to avoid being sponsored by two people at once. I'm sorry for any concern it may have caused you! You're welcome to go to www.compassion.com/firstpayment and begin your sponsorship and create an account this way as well :). My hope is that our main website and this community will help you get to know more about our program! But please let us know if you have other questions I can answer for you :).

Thanks for your patience, Sierra! When we set up an account for you in our system, it auto generates a sponsor number for you in which we are able to recognize you as a sponsor. This number will allow you to create a My Account on www.compassion.com and will be the number that you place on your corrrespondence to your child so that we can ensure that your letter gets to your child :).

Hello,

My family signed up online to sponsor another child (ET4880030) on 7/19.  Her information and sweet face has not shown up on our account yet, and I am wondering how long that normally takes.  No hurry, but knowing a time frame would help me stop obsessively checking the account so often!  :)

Thank you!

Hi Tammy! Because you signed up on a Sunday, it can take a couple of days for your sponsorship to fully process through our system. However, it should have gone through if you received a confirmation email. To be sure that it processed correctly, I can go ahead and take care of it manually for you and add Aberu to your account. Would you like Aberu to be on automatic withdrawal from your current card on file with us that pulls out on the 10th of each month? And would you like me to make a one time donation for Aberu for this month when I add her to your account? Let me know and I'll go ahead and process your request :).

Thank you, Emily!  I did receive a confirmation e-mail Sunday afternoon, so it probably just hasn't processed yet.  Yes, we will do the auto withdrawal from the card on file, and you can make the donation for this month as well.

Thanks again for your help!

Tammy, Aberu is now on your account! :) We processed a one time donation today and then the next automatic withdrawal will be on August 10th. Thank you SO much for sponsoring this precious child and let me know if I can help you with anything else. God bless you!

I signed up to sponsor a child at BigStuf Camps in Florida last week and I got confused trying to connect the child I picked up at the table there with the online account. I went to the first payment page and paid for the first month, but when I checked back today it hadn't processed (even though I got a confirmation email) so I was afraid that it didn't go through and I did the whole payment again and now I have two unprocessed payments for the same child for each month. Is there a way someone can remove one of the payments for me? And also, she doesn't show up on my account yet even though i've made the initial payment - does that not happen until the payment goes through or until I get a packet in the mail? Sorry for all the questions, I just want to make sure my child is getting what she needs and that hopefully I can send her a letter that will get there around the time of her birthday at the end of August. Thanks!

Hi Leah! Yes, it's very possible! :) We're always more than happy to serve you here in this support community but any time you would rather speak to a Compassion representative over the phone you are always welcome to do so by calling (800) 336-7676, Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. MT. Have a great weekend and thank you so much for sponsoring a child with Compassion! :)

My child's number is HA-865-0011. I filled out the card at the camp with my information, but my church was leaving that night so I didn't have enough time to put down all my credit card information so that's why I made an online account. The Texas account probably is mine because I live in Texas but the camp was in Florida so I don't know if I have two accounts on accident or what... I just want to make sure that I am definitely sponsoring Christerlensa since the first time I tried to make a payment was over a week ago and it still hasn't gone through.

Hi Leah! You're more than welcome to give us a call and we can talk to you over the phone. This way we can also update your account information and ensure everything's processed correctly. Did you receive a confirmation email after processing your sponsorship online?

I was just informed that we're unfortunately several days behind in processing new sponsorships and donations  due to the overhwhelming generosity of our sponsors. This being said, it sounds like your sponsorship is still pending and we will have it setup soon if you received a confiramtion email. I will keep watching Christerlensa profile for her to be linked to an account for you. Thank you for your patience as we work hard to get caught up for our sponsors!

Hi Leah! Yes, you should also be receiving an introductory packet in the mail, with lots of information about your kiddo, their community, and your sponsorship as well as a photo of your child and a prayer bookmark, just a couple of weeks after the folks at Compassion are able to get your sponsorship processed for you. :)

Good morning, Jennifer!

Kristen and Emily, thank you so much for trying to help Jennifer set up her online account! I'm so sorry you were having trouble, Jennifer. I'm happy to assist you :). It looks like you sponsored sweet Michael at the Hillsong Nights event, is that correct? When you sponsor a child at an event, it can take up to four weeks to get your account all setup for you as we have to wait to receive the sign up forms in our office before setting it up for you. But there is a faster option that will allow you to manually begin your sponsorship so you don't have to wait to write your first letter! :)

To set up your account and begin your sponsorship, visit www.compassion.com/firstpayment. Fill out the required fields and this will get you started. You can also call us at (800) 336-7676 and our representatives can assist you as well.
