Why has a letter from my sponsored child been addressed to 2 other people thanking them for their Christmas Gift? I just became her sponsor in February.

Every child in Compassion receives the same amount for Christmas out of the Christmas fund that people contribute to.  Because letters are usually several months behind, it would be perfectly normal for her to thank her sponsors for a Christmas gift.  With the new letter writing system, hopefully things will speed up, and there will not be such a big gap for thanking sponsors for gifts.

I appreciate your response Debbie but the real issue is the letter to me is addressed to Mike & Betty. It sounds like these may be other sponsors of hers? I am just confused as to why I would get their letter.

I am sure the ladies at Compassion will look it up tomorrow, but my guess would be those were her old sponsors?

Diane, I am a sponsor too and I have to agree with Debbie. It sounds as if Mike & Betty were her previous sponsors. Each child only has one sponsor at a time; but unfortunately due to many different circumstances many children have multiple sponsors their time in the Compassion program. The wonderful people who monitor this form will be able look into this for you after the long weekend. Thank you for sponsoring your child and making such a difference in their life. God bless!

Hi Diane! I am so sorry for the confusion and concern this letter from Mwokozi has caused you. Our program is a one to one sponsorship, which means you are the only person sponsoring Mwokozi. The letter you received from her is addressed to her previous sponsors who had only canceled their sponsorship nine days before you  so graciously sponsored her. At the time Mwokozi wrote the letter, she was still sponsored by them and had no idea what was going to happen. I am so sorry that we didn't catch that misaddressed letter before it reached you. I sincerely apologize for that mistake, but please know that Mwokozi will address all her future letters to you personally.

Hi Douglas john William Willoughby, Thank you for your response as well. I do understand that there are more than one sponsor for more than one child sometimes. My concern was that I was getting a letter from my child addressed to her other sponsor. I want to make sure the correct sponsor gets their letter as it is important to all of us to hear from our child to make sure they are OK.

The only times there are more than one sponsor for a child are 1) A group of people get together to sponsor that child together (example a church group, a family, or just a couple of friends decide to share the cost) or 2) The financial sponsor does not want to write and signs the kid up for a correspondent sponsor... in which case they have one financial sponsor and one correspondent sponsor, usually the child only really knows about the correspondent in this case though some older ones know about both.

I'm glad you figured out what was happening in this case though :)
