I got a letter yesterday in the mail from Julissa HO700234.  It was written on 12/20/14.  In it it states "my family's health and special needs are....the child's house was destroyed due to an earthquake and they only have the wood to build it."  Can you check on this for me?  I never heard of an earthquake there.  Was this a past issue or a current issue?  If it is current, I would like to send a family gift to help rebuild their home.  Could you please check on this for me?  Thanks, Laura

Hi Laura! A 7.3 magnitude earthquake hit off the Pacific coast of Central America in October 2014, and it mostly impacted Guatemala and El Salvador. It is very possible that Julissa's family felt shocks in her area in north eastern Honduras as well though. I am sure that the family would greatly benefit from a family gift to help them to rebuild. That is so sweet and thoughtful of you! So that I can properly address your concerns, what exactly are you wanting me to check on in this situation?

Thanks for the information.  You addressed most of my questions.  Can you check and see how their housing situation is and if it needs replacing?  Thanks, Laura

Oh and a rough price of how much it costs to repair/build/fix a house in that area. Thanks!

Laura, while I cannot check on the price of housing (to request for a quote would be promising to cover whatever the cost is), I would be happy to see what their housing situation is. I would recommend sending a family gift now if you feel led as it will take forty-five days to get a response to an inquiry. Also, to send an inquiry, it is very helpful to have a copy of the letter you received, you are welcome to send this letter in one of the following ways:

-Email it as an attachment to socialmedia@compassion.com
-Mail it to:

Oh I totally understand about the quote.  I guess what I meant is I know you have lists of how much things cost in each country and wasn't sure if something like that was on your list for HO?  I will send you a copy of the letter.  Thanks, Laura
