This is all new to me and I am really looking forward to this BUT I'm confused. Looking at the information on the children sponsored I'm worried that they are even part of it anymore. The information in the child center of one was 10 years ago and the other's personal information was a year or two ago. How do you know they are still involved? What happens to the money paid?

Hi Rhonda!

I'm a sponsor, like you, and have been sponsoring now for a little over 3 years.  I was also a sponsor years ago, but had to drop my original sponsorship for financial reasons.  I'd like to reassure you, your child is there, and I bet he or she will be so excited to learn you are now his/her sponsor!

Compassion's policy is to update the child's information every 2 years.  It often happens earlier, but 2 years between updates is the general rule.  I have multiple children now, and from my experience, they usually update the child information and photo somewhere between every 16 to 22 months.  I have had one girl go a month over the 2 year mark.  When this happened, I called Compassion to let them know, and within a month her information and picture had been updated.  I don't really know what is going on with the child center info.  To be honest, I've wondered a little myself what it is supposed to be telling me, so I'll be interested to see the response to that as well.

You should receive a first letter from your child within 4 months.  If you haven't, you can ask Compassion to do an inquiry for you, and find out what is going on.  I know when you are starting out it can be hard to wait, and often to trust, so I want to try and reassure you, your child is there.  I've never found any reason not to trust Compassion, and I do not believe that they would have a child listed for sponsorship if they had any reason to believe that that child had left the program.  Mistakes can happen, but Compassion will let you know if they find anything is wrong.

I hope this helps.

Hi Rhonda! Welcome to the Compassion family :). I'm sorry for the delay in responding to your question! We have a few sponsors with your name and I couldn't find your email in our system but I think I may have found your account; are you sponsoring Halima and Estela? If so, please rest assured that these kiddos are still active in our program. Halima was actually just registered into her center in February of this year and Estela was registered into her center in September of 2014. These two little ladies are very new to our program and will be so blessed by you!

I apologize for the confusion with the dates that we show on their profiles for when the information was updated. We do formal updates on your child every two years like Jamie kindly explained. However, we only update project and community information on your My Account when major things change. So for example, I sponsor a little girl in Indonesia named, Dina. Her child information such as her grade, was updated in the fall of 2014 along with her picture. It's so fun to see them grow! :) But as you can see in the screenshot below of my personal account, her community information says it hasn't been updated since 2012. This is because the environment is still the same and there has not been any updates in the average income for families in that area or a change in the primary occupation of the indigenous people there. But the Child Development Center she attends is still active and running as normal. I want to encourage you that the staff are actively involved in the lives of your girls and care deeply for each of them!

Please rest assured that we will let you know if there are any changes in the status of either of your children or the project they attend. You will also receive letters from the pastor of the church your child attends, once per year :). This will give you insight into current events that are happening within the community and at the project. But the best way to stay up to date with your child's life however, is through letters. Ask your girls questions, highlighting and numbering them so that our project staff know to help her answer them as they are both very young. Your girls will be so excited to build a relationship with you and not only share about their lives and families, but learn about you too!
