I recently requested a correspondent child & noticed that a little boy from Kenya was added to my account yesterday. I'm excited to start writing to him! This is my first correspondent child, so I was wondering, will I get a packet of information regarding him, or do I just read what's on my account online? Also, will I know if it's a corporation sponsoring him or an individual who is unable to correspond with him for some reason? I just want to know how to approach the topic in the first letter to explain that I'm not his actual sponsor, but rather, his new friend. Thanks!

Hi Lindsay!
I also write to a child in Kenya :) You will receive a child packet with his information, this should come to you within the next 15 days. The children are also notified that they have both a correspondent and a sponsor. We cannot give out specific sponsor information, but if you would like to know if your child has ever received a letter in the past- we can certainly look into that for you! You may email any specific account questions to ciinfo@us.ci.org or call 800-336-7676

Oh, ok! Thanks! No, I don't need any specific details ... I'll just introduce myself as his new correspondent friend. :) Thank you for the info!

Hi Steph,
If you are already a sponsor you can email Compassion with your sponsor number and we will place you on the list to correspond with a child. If you are not a sponsor, please include the following information in your email:
Name
Address
Preffered Phone Number
Preffered Email Address

Thanks for your heart to write :)

A regular sponsor financially sponsors a child. So they would pay $38 a month for schooling and such for their child(ren). Sometimes a sponsor decides to not write their child(ren); they e-mail Compassion and ask for a correspondent to be assigned to their child(ren). In this case, the child(ren) get put on the correspondent list. If you become a correspondent sponsor, you write to one or more of these children. You do not financially sponsor them, you just write to them. I hope this helps :) If you have any other questions, just ask! Lizzie

How many sponsors are currently waiting on the Correspondent Waiting List? I am a correspondent sponsor and encouraged one of my friends to become one too. She called in to the main Sponsor Relations 800 number and was put on "the list." She is honestly pretty sad that she hasn't heard back yet and it has been a few months. I just assumed that there were a lot of children waiting for correspondent sponsors and that she would receive one right away, but maybe I'm wrong. Can you please shed some light on that for me! Thanks so much!!

Hi Tracy, the number of sponsors on the waiting list changes daily. At this time, we do not have any children who are available for correspondence sponsorships, so the wait list is a bit longer than usual. I checked today and there are about 15 people waiting for a correspondent child right now.

I just got a correspondant child in Nov. I asked for a boy from Mexico City, and I was on the list less than a month. How is this? If Tracy's friend has been on the list for months?

Tracy, will you ask your friend to give us a call at (800) 336-7676? We can check on the status of her request to see what's going on.

Correspondence children are assigned according to the list- whoever is next on the list is assigned the next available correspondent child. But, we are human so a mistake could have been made. :)

Thank you Shaina. I just wanted to let you know that she has since called and they told her that she is still on 'the list'. Hopefully she'll be up shortly. I appreciate your help! I guess it's a great 'problem' to have too many people that want to be correspondent sponsors and not enough children to write to :)

Hi, so my family and I sponsor a child, and I'm the oldest kid in the family and I want to know if there is a way I could become a child correspondent. Is that alright? Or should I not do this?

Hello,

I also want to become a correspondent to a child. I contacted Compassion already in 2010 but I have not heard back. New year, new luck - I just sent an email again and I hope to get the opportunity soon.

Regards,
Silke

Hi Lizzie,

so far I don't have an online account. Do you know how I could get one?

Thank you very much for the information. Let's hope I will have something in the mail soon :)

Otherwise I will call Compassion and ask again.

Thanks!

Regards,
Silke

Unless you have donated in the past to Compassion, you will need to wait until you receive your child packet to start an online account.

Hello Lizzie, Hello Shaina,

thank you very much! I feel very lucky as I have been assigned a child now. I got a sponsor number and I tried to set up an online account but it looks like that I have to wait some more days as the account will be created manually.

Have a nice weekend!

Silke

I've seen a few posts related to being a "correspondent sponsor" and was wondering is Compassion still does this and if so, how exactly does it work. We currently sponsor one child but I would love to write to others...Stacey
