I've learned some things about sponsoring with Compassion that has very reluctantly caused me to decide to go back to sponsoring someone through an organization I used to sponsor with. I feel the other organization makes it more possible to develop a relationship with the child and be updated about the child:
1. Apparently, NO original copies of letters are sent back and forth between the sponsor and the child. Scanned copies only. This seems very impersonal. In my other sponsorship, original copies are sent. Also, I read an E-copy of a "letter" from my child, and all it was is a form where she filled in the blanks of what is your favorite color, animal, food, etc. To me, this is not a letter and also seems quite impersonal.
2. Apparently, updates are sent every 24 months?? A child can grow and change a lot in 24 months. My other sponsorship, the sponsor is updated and sent a new photo every year. And I also read something about, if an extra $60 donation is sent, then a photo is sent to the sponsor?? My other sponsorship automatically sent a new photo of the child every year, which is how it should be.

Please cancel my sponsorship and acknowledge. Thank you for the opportunity.

I am not an employee, just a sponsor. I am sad that you are going to stop sponsoring your little one.

I understand your views on the letters and the photos. I would like to get updates more often as well.

One thing that I would like you to know is that the children love to get the letters in any form. I have been blessed to visit 2 of my sponsor children. While at one of the projects I was able to talk to a group of about 20 kiddos from 5 to 8 year olds. It tugged at my heart when some of them said that they have never gotten a single letter from their sponsor. They would love to have any type of communication.

One other thing I asked was how many sponsors they have had. Many have had multiple sponsors in their young lives. They do not understand why the sponsors stopped sending them letters.

As a sponsor I actually like the way things are done. It saves a ton of time and money. More money that can be spent on the children and I get the letters so much faster. One of my sponsor children is 21 years old and the letters are not check list types, real thought out letters from him. Also the a 15 year old has started to write longer un-assisted letters that are more personable, not just checked items and color page.

I have children sponsored with another origination also. The letters are hand written with the help of family or staff. That is nice but, I think I get more information from the prompted questions from compassion. Even if they are brief. Also, some of the letters have never made it to the kiddos. I can assume lost in the mail.

I don't know if I will change your mind about this or not. I have to remind myself that this is ALL about the children. From time to time I second guess some things with every type of ministry that I am involved with. One thing I can tell you is, a simple printed letter from you can change a child's life.

God Bless,
