I found my sponsor child by clicking 'sponsor a child' on the Compassion website and I pay $48 a month. Recently, I was browsing the website and clicked on 'sponsors' then 'our Compassion'. To my surprise it was another sponsorship page with different children. Why is this? And why is it that the children listed here seem to have been waiting longer, when the front page gives the option to sponsor the longest waiting - which is a different child- and also the price different at $38 a month vs $48 a month?

Hi Philippa, Congratulations on your new sponsor child!  I have sponsored students from Australia and I believe the cost there is $48 per month and had them transferred to the US office where it is $38 per month.  It is a difference in the value of the currency.  In UK it is less than $38 a month but it is in Euros which one euro is worth more than one US dollar.  Hope that helps!

I want to tell you about a Facebook group you could join if you are interested.  It is called  Compassion Sponsors/ Correspondents Facebook Forum.  It is a private group for the safety of the children so if you are interested send an email to socialmedia@compassion.com and ask to be added.  Sponsors share their ideas of what to send the children and share some letters, talk about trips to meet children (I haven't been but love to hear about it!) and this past July I actually met someone (and her husband)  I met on this group when my husband and I flew to where they lived on business and it was so nice to meet another sponsor couple and share our experiences.  They do go to meet their kids and it was very encouraging to hear about that.  Hope to see you on the Facebook Forum!

I live in Canada and it's $41 here :) Like Denise said, different currency rates depending on which countries website you are looking at.  The reason for different children on each website is so that the kids aren't accidentally double sponsored.  If you find a child on a different countries website that you want to sponsor, the child can be transferred to your own county office for you.  :)

Thank you for the replies! That makes sense. Denise, does this mean I could transfer my sponsor child to a different office and pay less? This is interesting as I would like to sponsor another child in the future and this would make it more affordable. Also, I have sent an email about the facebook forum. Thanks for the advice , I hope to see you there :)

Hi Philippa, I think all the costs work out to be about the same when converted to the currency of the home nation office where a sponsor lives.   The only time it might be worth a check for the currency rates of exchange is if a sponsor's home country doesn't have an office and they have to sponsor in another country.  Hope that makes sense.

Philippa, send the request to join the Facebook group and when I see you on there I will send you a Facebook friend request because I do have some thoughts about this that I would prefer not to put on here where everyone can see(lol)!
