Discontinuing as Sponsor for Miguel Jair Martillo Campoverde. I cannot afford it, and my husband and I fight each month I have to give.

I got married last year, and my husband DOES NOT like that I am sending money to a child through Compassion Int'l. Each month that I send money to Miguel Jair Martillo Campoverde, the child whom I am sponsoring, my husband and I get into a big fight and I am just sick of having to deal with all of this. Please, please, PLEASE release me from having the responsibility of sending Miguel the $38.00/month. I can't do this any more.
Thank you.

Hi Cheri,

I am a sponsor like you.  I am sorry you are in this situation.  That is definitely a tough position to be in.  I just wanted to let you know that the ladies from Compassion who monitor this forum are off for the weekend, but they will be back on Monday, and they will be able to take care of this for you then.

God bless you!

Hugs, Cheri. This post made me so sad. Sponsoring has been the best thing in our life, and has been such an important part of raising our children to be compassionate and caring adults. I am going to start praying for your husband, that his heart will be softened.

We started sponsoring many years ago, when I was convinced that we couldn't afford the (then) $30/month. It was a really scary leap of faith, but so rewarding, that over the years we have added many kiddos to our "family."

You might ask the Compassion folks whether you could sign on to be a correspondent to a child--it won't cost any money; you can write letters online so you don't even have to buy stamps! But the relationship formed through letters is even more important than the money. Compassion allows correspondent relationships for kids whose sponsors either don't write letters or can't (sometimes children are sponsored by corporations, for example).

Whatever you do, don't give up your good and giving heart--it is much needed in this world.

Blessings to you--

Good morning Cheri,

I am so sorry to hear that you are having to deal with this. I know how hard it is when you have so much love in your heart that it exceeds what we have in our pockets. I also know that it is hard to lose our kiddos, no matter how long we have been with them. I have removed Miguel from your account at this time, but please know that if you would like to send him a final letter, you are more than welcome to do so! Please write “Final Letter” across the top of the correspondence, along with your child's name and child's number, (EC052800097). Please send your letter to Compassion's address below:

Compassion International
Colorado Springs, CO 80997
If in the future you would like to sponsor another child, we would be blessed to partner with you again.
Please join us in continued prayer for this child. We know that although you may not be able to continue to sponsor them, your prayers can make even a larger impact. In addition, if you are interested in writing to a child, as Julie suggested, please let us know and we will be happy to get you more details! :)
