Do gifts slow child letters, because they wait until they can write a thank you?

When a sponsor gives a money gift to a child or his family, can that delay receiving letters from that child? I would hope that the child would continue to write letters as usual, and write the thank you letter after they knew what had been purchased with the gift money.

(I gave a family gift to one of my sponsored children, and now it has been 5 months with no letter, yet letters from my other sponsored children are arriving. It would appear to me that maybe that child's letter writing has been put on hold until they are ready to send the thank you and photo, which I do not feel would be a good practice. It's just that is how it possibly appears to me at this time.)

Beth, thank you letters for receiving a gift are in addition to the other letters they are supposed to write. Sometimes letters can serve two purposes, including if you send a gift and the stationary for a reciprocal or scheduled letter was already going to be printed. Then they may combine them into one letter. However, sending a gift should not slow down the letters from your child. Do remember that we have seen some letters slow down since we moved to the new system for letter processing. Not every sponsor is experiencing this issue, but a good number of them are. Most likely, we have letters in the system from the kiddo you are talking about that are just waiting to be processed through the system. I'd be happy to check into it for you if you can give me the child's ID.

My pleasure, Beth! I do see that we actually have at least two letters in the system from Manuel that the country office in Guatemala are working to process right now. One of them is a thank you letter for your gift, but the other is just a reciprocal letter that they've been working on for a little longer than that gift letter. I know it's been frustrating to see the letters slow down from him :(. I too am experiencing this with one of my children and it's been very hard to wait wondering when I would finally receive the letters. You've been so patient with us as this new system has gone through ups and downs!

Just speaking from my own experiences, I received a first letter from one of my kids just twenty days after sending my first letter to her and this was after sending a gift before the letter!

I've also waited for letters for a while. There's a lot of variety in individual circumstances. I sponsor eight children, and two of those eight I'm a correspondent sponsor for.
