I was thinking about telling my older sponsored children that I write to other children in the program, but I didn't know if I should disclose names and such or if that was some violation of the child protection and privacy

So far I have just given some vague information. One of the items I send in my welcome packet is a map of the world. I mark where I am and where the child is and connect the two locations with hearts. I also mark places on the map and say that we write to or sponsor a boy or girl. So there might be a mark on Togo and I will write "We sponsor a little girl here."

I'm very open about my other sponsorships with my children, both young and old. For one thing, I sponsor or correspond with multiple children in a few centers (same age, too) so there's no point in concealing it. Also, I intend to visit the majority of my kids at some point and in each country, all the kids from there will be gathered together. It'll be less of a shock or a let down if they have full awareness of who all else I sponsor.

Sara, you are more than welcome to mention your other sponsored children in your letters. We do not have any rules about privacy in this area. I do think it's best to keep the focus on the mentoring relationship that you have with that particular child and not necessarily the other children that you are mentoring. It is completely your personal preference and decision though. :)

Yes, the mentoring relationship and teaching Christ's word and showing His love are my primary goals.  I haven't decided yet whether I want them to know about the rest of their 'family' or not.  I guess I will get a vibe from the letters I receive from them whether that would be a good thing for each individual child or not.  Thanks for all your support!

I have two girls in BF in different cities and purposely didn't say anything about the other in my letters because I wanted them to feel special.  I recently visited them and it's now a minor regret that I didn't just tell them earlier.  I keep imagining the scene when they were being arranged for meeting the sponsors and there was this other person there... (Teenage girls already have enough awkwardness!)  In Africa they seem so community minded that I don't imagine it was a big deal. They got along well and the day was just fine.  However, if I could go back in time, I would tell them!

May of last year I meet the boy I sponsor. After meeting Johann in Peru I starting sponsoring another little boy from the same city. The next trip I will be meeting with the both of them! I have not told them the news yet that I sponsor both of them. I plan on it but to be honest I am nervous. I am not sure how to break the news........ any suggestions?

Hello, Cheyanne!!!  I will tell you what I have told my kids...  I told them that I have developed such a love for their country through being their sponsor and I could tell that they were benefitting so much from the program.  So, when I felt like God was urging me to sponsor another child, I chose to do it in their country...  :D
