Chelsea, I'm just another sponsor but wanted to assure you that if your child was affected Compassion will contact you. A lot of times when a natural disaster happens, communication is interrupted for a time. The staff on the ground in Ecuador is trained to handle situations like this and will be there to assist any affected families. As soon as they're able, they'll contact the U.S. office with the status of affected centers and families. At that time Compassion will be able to give us an update!

Kristen is right, Compassion will contact you when they know which centers and families are affected. Compassion has set up a crisis fund for Ecuador however that you can donate to to help with relief efforts. Here's the link if you're interested. http://www.compassion.com/ecuador-ear...

Chelsea, Karla, and Joy, I know how worried you have to be about your precious children. The staff Compassion has in Ecuador are working right now to assess the impact as they can, checking on individual children and their families. We do understand the need to accurately gather information on any affected beneficiaries and staff, which does take time to do. Infrastructure and road systems have become severely affected due to debris and landslides making information gathering challenging. As of this morning, we do not yet have any information on affected children. We will be notifying sponsors whose children have been affected as the information becomes available, but it could take several days or weeks even. In this time of uncertainty, please lift our staff, children and their families, first responders, and Ecuador as a whole in prayer. If you would like to help provide for disaster relief and immediate needs in Ecuador, you can do so here. The fund will help provide temporary shelter, food, medical assistance, and water to the affected families.

Hi Alyssa! Thank you so much for the love and concern you have for Kenneth. While we are still gathering information on each child and center that was affected by the earthquake, Kenneth should actually be just fine. He lives in Quito, which is separated from the area that was affected by a mountain range. Reports did indicate that Quito residents felt tremors, but there wasn't damage done in the capital. The coast of Ecuador received the brunt of the damage. Praise the Lord for that! I'm sure the shaking of the ground was scary for him though. I'd encourage you to send him a quick letter letting him know you've been praying for him. You could even include some encouraging Bible verses for him to read over. Also, continue to pray over our staff and our children and their families as relief efforts continue.

Jennie, thank you so much for the prayers of you and all the others who are lifting our precious brothers and sisters up in Ecuador. I do want to give you assurance that any sponsors who have children that were impacted directly by the earthquake, we are contacting personally.

Praise God, as of yesterday morning when we received our last report from Ecuador, Genesis and her family have not been reported as being directly affected by the earthquake. We're praying this continues to be the report for your girl but if we find different information, know that we will contact you. Thank you for continuing to pray!

EC340 is the same centre as one of my kids! :D  They have a public facebook page for their church and have been posting on it asking for donations to help other areas that were affected, so that probably means all is well and it won't change :D

Anna, no, it has a different spanish name, which is the name of the church the centre is based out of: https://www.facebook.com/Iglesia-Colinas-de-Mapasingue-106056789455988/?fref=ts&ref=br_tf

And then this one is actually the centre itself rather than the church and there's loads of photos of the kids activities there.  We can't contact them on facebook while we have kids in the program but there's loads of photos on there.  You can sure see how much stuff they do with the kids with the sponsorship money!    https://www.facebook.com/CDN-340-205583922824087/

Hi Valerie. Valeryn's center was significantly damaged in the earthquake, but we have not yet received information on individual children who have been affected from that center. Our staff are still working to check on every child. If we receive information that Valeryn and her family have been affected, we will notify you as soon as the information is available. Please continue to pray for her!

We have been praying for our Yaiza Garcia who attends the  Macedonia center.  She lives in the community of Cañitas. Do you know if they were affected and if there is any information about her safety? I'm assuming since we haven't heard, that she's either safe or we just don't know yet.

Sarah, thank you so much for your prayers. Sadly the center she attends was destroyed in the earthquake. The good news is that the earthquake happened in the middle of the night when our centers were closed so none of the children were currently attending. We have not yet received reports of any of the children attending that center, having been directly impacted by the earthquake. We are still assessing the situation and checking on every family so if we hear differently, know that we will be sure to contact you. But I'm praying that all of the children in this center are safe since we have not yet received reports of your precious angel being affected. In the meantime as we continue gathering information and providing our families assistance that are in need of help on the ground, please keep praying and if you don't hear from us, this is good news that she has not been affected. I encourage you to also send her a letter during this time as I know your words will be a comfort to she and her family.

Thank you so much for the update. I sent her a note the day we found out about the earthquake last week and prayed it would make it soon. Do you know how long the online messages take to get to Ecuador? She is in our constant prayers.

Sarah, online letters should take as little as 3 weeks but because of damage to roads and difficulties with communications right now because of the earthquake, it might take longer. But we'll get it to her as soon as we can.

Sarah, we still haven't received any information from Yaiza's project about any children who were impacted by the earthquake. We will notify you if we do receive word that her family was impacted, but the news is good if you don't hear from us.

Any updates on our sponsor child and/or his center would be greatly appreciated.  Luber Alfredo Velez Anchundia  Child ID: EC3771224     Juan 3:16 Student Center in Manta.  I have read that it was one of the hardest hit areas and my heart goes out to the whole community.

Pam, there was minor damage to Luber's center but it was not destroyed, praise God! We have not received any word however, that Luber was impacted by the earthquake. Also great news! We're so thankful that we're finding so many families in this area are safe. If we find that Luber was affected, we'll let you know.

Hi Rachael! Thank you for your concern about Gabriel. It's a lot like Pam's child Luber. Unfortunately his center has some damage to it but it's not destroyed thankfully and so far he has not been impacted. Thank you for your continued prayers for his safety!

Hi Steph! I know how concerned you must be for your precious girl as her center was very close to the epicenter of the earthquake. Regrettably, we did find that her center undertook significant damage but praise God as it was not completely destroyed during the hurricane. We also have not received any news that your girl and her family were directly affected at all by this earthquake and we're continuing to pray that as our staff assess each families situation, we continue to receive good news that the children in this center are all safe. Rest assured that if she and her family were at all impacted, we'll be sure to contact you and we'll also ensure she and her family receive the care and assistance they need.

I have been patiently waiting for updates about the earthquake in Ecuador, but have had one email on the subject since it happened. I know these things take time, but it would be nice to have regular updates about relief efforts and what's going on there. Are communications back up so letters currently getting to my children? Will you be giving updates that are more specific to an individual area? Thank you!

Caralee, thank you so much for your concern for Ecuador and for your children. Thankfully, all 3 of your children have not been directly affected by the earthquake. As of May 25, 2016, we received information that all children have been located and accounted for. If any of your children or their projects would have been directly affected, we would have notified you right away with the details. Currently, Compassion is working with the affected children and their families to provide for their immediate needs and have been able to distribute survival kits. Compassion will continue to work with these children in the coming months to assist them with emotional and psychological recovery and will be assisting the affected projects with needed repairs or reconstruction of their buildings. You can also check out our Crisis Update webpage at http://www.compassion.com/crisis/advisory-earthquake-ecuador.htm. Since your children's projects were not directly affected by the earthquake, their weekly activities, as well as letter writing, are continuing as normal. Please let me know if you have any additional questions.

(I moved your question to this forum because it relates to the above conversation)

Hi Ashley! We make it a priority to contact the sponsors whose children have been directly affected first before contacting those whose child is ok. Your little man, Luis, and his family are doing just fine :). Praise the Lord that no one in his center was affected either! I would encourage you to keep praying for him in the aftermath of the earthquake and get a letter out to him soon letting him know how happy you are that he is ok.

Hi William! So sorry we missed your post yesterday :(. We haven't received all the funding needed for the disaster relief in Ecuador yet. You're free to encourage friends and family to donate here if they would like to help support our dear ones in Ecuador.

Hi Sarah. I forgot I posted this. I know WAY-FM radio does fundraisers for Compassion. That's how I got into this in 2011. Every time they do a fundraiser Compassion always gets more than asked for. That should bring in more than enough for Ecuador.

I know it has been a while since the earthquake, but I recently found this page, and I was wondering if I could find anything out about my sponsored child in Ecuador. She is Janneth Alexandra Duchi Villa, and her Project is the Belen Student Center. Thank you for everything you do!!

Hey Tim! Thanks for your continued care and concern for her! By now, we've contacted all sponsors whose children were directly affected by the earthquake. I'm happy to report that Janeth and her center were unaffected, praise God! Activities at the project are going on as normal for she and her other peers :). But we appreciate your continued prayers for all families, staff, and centers that were impacted as we continue working to restore homes and centers that were damaged and for peace and comfort emotionally as this country heals from the earthquake.

I still haven't received an update or communication from my girl Lesly at La Promesa. It's worrisome when Compassion said they would verify and let us know our kids were safe but haven't-- I assume no news is good news, as people have said here, but still would appreciate confirmation!!

Hi Christine! We reached out to all sponsors whose kiddos were affected by the earthquake, as we do whenever there is a disaster. Your Lesly was not affected, praise God!
