Facebook group for each child center (or area)

I had an idea that maybe there could be a space that is sort more like a place where you can befriend other sponsors rather than just asking questions but where you can really connect with others.

So then I thought, what if each center (or since that is a lot, maybe group together different areas or something) have there own Facebook group. And if you sponsor a kid there you can join.

That way if the area has access to the internet, maybe occasionally photos and videos can be posted of that center.

Plus if anyone goes on a trip there, it's easy access to "tell my child I say hi!" Or something like that. And the person can post photos and such when they get back!

I just thought it would be something really cool to consider.

The sponsors already do have a facebook group.  It has been in existence for a few years now.  One of the employees that answers on here could add you I think.  We used to have a website run by Compassion that we were able to post pictures, etc., but they decided it wasn't worth the high cost of running it, so I doubt that will ever happen.  We do have people that go on trips and post pictures in the fb group.

Hi Kaitlyn! We setup a Facebook group for this very purpose! Most of the people in the group are correspondent sponsors so we named it the Compassion Correspondents Facebook Group. You are welcome to join even if you are not a correspondent though! I just sent you an email invite through Facebook to join the group. :)

Hi Susan, Could you please add me to "Compassion Correspondents Facebook Group".  I would love to connect with other sponsors. My husband and I just started sponsoring a little boy this month, April 2016. Thank you. :)

There is also a group for each country that Compassion has sponsored children in :)
Most of the groups can be found by searching for 'Compassion sponsors' and then the name of the country, e.g. 'Compassion sponsors Ethiopia'

Compassion Correspondents is an open Facebook Group. Don't you think it is an easy way for responded children and their families to find their sponsors and attempt to contact them via facebook?

Well, I can see public facebook group <Compassion Correspondent And Sponsored Children creative and craft> with 100 member posted. Perhaps, there is another secret Compassion Correspondents group.

that is not the one run by Compassion.  To be added to the large one, you would have to ask on here, and they will add you.  It is easy enough anyway for the sponsored kids to find their sponsors on fb.  I have had several find me, and it had nothing to do with what groups I belong to.  I always take sure that I don't say anything that would in any way offend my kids if they were to see it, especially since all my kids are older.

I really like the original poster'so idea about a group for each child development center. Or regional groups maybe like 3 to 4 groups per country. There is very little movement that concerns my child's country in the mass group of all sponsors known to man.

I think that's a great idea but the 'problem' is that there are so many Child Development Centres in each country (which is great!).  If there are, say, 250 children sponsored at each centre (some have more), you would need a lot of sponsors from that centre to take part in an online group to make it work.  Even with groups for each country that Compassion works in, the number of sponsors taking part in the online groups is small - at present!

A few years ago when Compassion had their own website for sponsors--"OurCompassion" we had a 'page' or 'group' for each country, and then the general discussions.  It ended up that hardly anyone ever posted on the country pages.  Some people have a ton of correspondence kids, and to post things on each group, and keep up with things could take hours.  I think many people are already saying they spend too much time on fb and other social media, and are trying to cut down.  To add all of this, and then expect people to check it all the time, I think is more than most sponsors have the time for, or are willing to do.

Yes, it's great to have a group for discussion (the one above).  This is the most useful group. Country pages are most useful for posting specific information about countries - photos of children sponsored in that country, lists of the children, which project they are in and their sponsors (so that sponsors can see who sponsors children in the same project and connect with each other), country maps, location of projects within a country, photos, 'blog' type posts of visits to that country, news updates, links to information about that country on the Compassion website, etc.  It may be that these groups are accessed less frequently than the discussion group, but are there for reference.
