Can I please get confirmation of my sponsored child's gender?  My official card says Kirubel is a boy, however other information I have including her picture tells me she is probably a girl.  I just want to make sure we have accurate information on our child, in order to better relate/ communicate with him/ her.  Please help!

Hi Renee,

I am happy to confirm for you that Kirubel is indeed a boy. I did double check in multiple areas of our system to make sure. I can absolutely understand where you might think he looks a little more like a girl in his photo though, as his outfit is certainly different than what a boy might wear here in the United States. There are two things that also come to mind when looking at his precious photo. First, in Africa, they do not really have a gender assigned to colors; like we do with pink for girls and blue for boys. They are very open with what they wear. Secondly, his hair cut is very typical for a boy in his area. If he were a girl, her head would likely be completely shaved because that is very common with girls in Kenya.

Thank you for reaching out! I hope this is helpful! Please let us know if we can help in any other way!
