Getting ready to launch

Today as I start preparing letters to send through the new system, my thoughts go to the *thousands* of Compassion people, literally all around the world, who have been working long and hard to prepare for this systemic change. A change of this magnitude has got to involve a slew of computer programmers, mail processors, donor liaisons, facilities management folks, and answer-finder/question-answerers in all sorts of places, not to mention the visionaries and the ones who started doing the research about costs, benefits, and possibilities before this change was much more than a blip on the radar. Of course, translation and training are a huge part of this, too, including translation not just of language but also cultures and systems.

I don't know what all these folks are doing this weekend. I hope it involves time in worship and rest, family and friends. I imagine there have also been last-minute fixes and other such issues that always come up in systemic changes of this magnitude, and plenty of folks working extra hard to deal with them.

In all of this and more, I am grateful for the good-hearted people of Compassion -- some whose names are more public, and many more serving faithfully in the background -- who are doing their very best to serve children, families, and communities around the world, and to help us join personally in global ministry. Thank you.

I agree! Reading all of the comments with "what abouts..." made me realize just how varied all of our letters and extras have been! I'm glad that Compassion has found a way to streamline the process, reducing costs and decreasing the turn-around time at the same time!

I'm eager to try out the new system, but am trying to hold back a week or two to let them get over the rush! :)
