How long will I be allowed to sponsor Memsi ? Also, I didn't have extra funds at Christmas and would like to do as for that now . Is a goat a good gift for Memsi ? Thanks , Glynda

Hi! I know I'm not an admin but I know they will be off for another day. They can answer in more detail when they get on. I know that you can sponsor a child until they graduate from the compassion program or move away. The age they graduate differs based on if they have met goals that they set for themself. As for gifts, I think compassion views it best if you send a monetary gift because that way compassion works with the family to see what is most needed. It might not be a goat they may need something more than a goat. Plus I don't think the gifts you purchase from the catalog can necessarily go to your kid. From what I understand compassion will give those gifts to the families that need it most. Hope this helps!.

Hi Glynda! I think Kaitlynn has done an excellent job answering your questions but just want to add and confirm a few things. The age that a child completes the program depends on the area and the relevant programs available there. In India, adolescents are required to complete the program before age 22. It looks like Memsi is anticipated to complete the program sometime in 2019. We will notify you when she has officially completed. Bless you for wanting to send a gift! You are actually welcome to send a gift any time of the year. Let me explain a few giving options:
  1. The Christmas Gift Program: We combine all Christmas gifts and distribute them equally among all of the children in our programs. This means that with each donation to the fund, we
will purchase a gift for your child, gifts for children whose sponsors can't give, and children who aren't yet sponsored. This way, no child is left out and that your child received a gift even though you may not have sent one. You are welcome to donate to the fund any time of the year and it will go towards next year's Christmas gifts. To give, please log into your "My Account" and click the button for "Additional Giving." Use the drop-down menu under "Other Donations" to designate the Christmas Fund and select the amount of your gift.
  2. Child and Family Specific Gifts: If you would like to send Memsi and her family a gift, you are welcome to do so. You may send a child gift of $10 to $100 and a family gift of $25 to $1,000 each year. The local Compassion staff will meet with the family when the gift is delivered to help them decide how the money should be spent and guide them in using the money wisely. You will receive a thank you letter (approximately six months from when the gift was given) to let you know what was purchased. For gifts of $60 or more, you will receive a photo of your child with the gift along with the thank you letter. To give, please log into your "My Account" and click the button for "Additional Giving." Use the appropriate drop-down menu under "Child-related Gifts" to designate whether it is a child or family gift and the amount of your gift.
  3. The Christmas Catalog: We have created a catalog of gifts based on proposals from the neediest families in our programs. Give the gift of bibles, healthcare, or goats out of the goodness of your heart or in honor of a friend or loved one. These gifts work great as Christmas gifts or memorial gifts because they come with a card to notify your recipient of a gift given in their honor. As mentioned, these gifts are based on proposals from the neediest families so they will no necessarily go to your sponsored child. To give and bless a family in poverty, please visit:
