I sent money by the deadline for a Christmas gift for my sponsored child. Curious why she didn’t mention it when the letter was dated after Christmas. Also, I was told if I sent the amount I did, I would receive a picture of her with the gift. First time doing this and just a little curious- want to be sure the money went towards what I was told. Thanks.

Hi Lisa, usually I start hearing from my kids around March about their Christmas celebrations at the center and the gifts they received.

Did you send a gift designated for the Christmas fund, or was this a separate gift designated as a child or family gift?
Christmas gifts to the Christmas fund are pooled together and distributed evenly so that all kids (whether they're sponsored or not) have a present at Christmas. We do not receive a photo for this type of gift - regardless of the amount we contribute to the fund.

If you send over $60 as a birthday gift, child gift, or a family gift you will receive a thank you (with photo) about six months after sending the gift. If you ever go longer than six months without getting that letter or photo you can do an inquiry. In the seven years I've sponsored I've only had to send maybe 3 inquiries about thank you letters or photos, and I've had a lot of kids.

Thank you. That helps a lot. I won’t worry about until July, if I haven’t heard any thing. I just wasn’t sure what the protocol was.

And yes, it was for her and her family because I liked the idea of receiving the picture.

Oh good! Yay for photos!
In my experience it takes 2-3 months for the center to receive your financial gift for the child. They then sit down with the family and help them decide how best the family can benefit from the money and take them shopping. Then your child will be prompted to write the letter and it has to go through the translation process:) That's why they give 6 months for the thank you to reach you.

Do ask for an inquiry if it doesn't show up by then though!

Thanks. I sent it before Holloween, like it said, so I could get the picture. But, I’ll give it six months after Christmas before I inquire again, if I haven’t seen the picture, etc.

Also wanted to add that I think some countries might do their Christmas celebrations on the Epiphany, instead of Dec 25th like we're used to doing! One of the staff can correct me on that if im wrong though :)
