Would you please check on some gifts I sent to my Bangladesh child, Mark? ID BD051500201. I sent a $100 family gift and a $20 birthday gift on 11/2016 and another $100 family gift on 6/2017. I never heard back so I’d like to make sure he received them? He doesn’t have to write a thank you or have his picture taken, I’d just like to make sure the funds arrived. If you can peak into his folder and see what he got, that’d be an awesome bonus!

Also, his profile says he lives with his parents, but two of his letters say he lives with his grandparents and his mom works in the city in a garment factory. He seems like he misses her as he said he’d like to visit her, so I think it’s kinda far. There has never been any mention of a father, but of course that doesn’t mean he’s absent. Would you please check and possibly update this in his file?

Thank you,
Holly

Hi Holly! Thank you so much for blessing sweet Mark and his family with such generous gifts! I'm so sorry that you have not received any thank you letters for the gifts you have sent. Due to the time it takes to process, deliver, and help your child utilize the gift funds you send, we must allow at least 6 months for a thank you letter to arrive. For this reason, I am not yet able to send an inquiry for your $100 family gift given in June of 2017. However, I am happy to send an inquiry to the field office in Bangladesh for the two generous gifts you sent in November of 2016. In the future, please do let us know if you have not received a thank you letter and it has been more than 6 months since you gave it. We will be in contact with you as soon as we receive a response within 6-8 weeks. We greatly appreciate your heart to give above and beyond the normal sponsorship to your precious kiddo!

I'm so sorry for any confusion caused by Mark's profile still showing that he is living with his parents. Regrettably, we are only able to provide child updates once every 24-26 months at this time. This may result in some information becoming out of date. Sadly, situations where a parents must travel for work and leave their child with family is very common. It breaks my heart to hear that Mark misses his mom, and I sincerely hope that he will be able to see her soon. I'm sure that his grandparents are caring for him to the best of their ability, and Mark is still receiving any additional care that he needs through the Compassion program. Please know that we are very hopeful that we will be able to provide more frequent updates in the near future to prevent this. In the meantime, I encourage you to ask Mark in your letter about his living situation along with any other questions you may have for him :). We often find that our sponsors know more about their children than we here is the US office do because of the meaningful relationships that our sponsors build with their kiddos through letter writing. Please let us know if you have any additional questions or concerns. God bless you!

Hi Christina, I have been thinking about this and hopefully the second gift’s letter will come on it’s own, but just in case, when would be six months for the June gift? Could we wait and do both at the same time? It feels like this would be easier for the center as they may not have a camera. It just seems like it’d be hard for them to potentially go through the same exercise a few weeks apart? Also, I had to do an inquiry for a first letter and now for a gift and possibly another inquiry for a second gift. This would make 3 times I have pressured this child to write me in a year and a half and this makes me uncomfortable. Can we just wait and do one big gift inquiry? That was my original intention. What do you think?

Holly, staff will probably answer you on Monday now but I just wanted to say that chances are the picture was already taken but forgot to send it, or lost along the way... I've done inquires for gifts before and the photo was already on file.  Also, when I've had to do several inquiries at a time my kids have often written something like "Thanks for checking up on me, now I know you really care about me."
(Just something to make you feel better in the chance that the first inquiry is already sent, I'm not sure if it is or not but the staff here are usually pretty quick!)

Thanks! If they can’t call back the first inquiry to wait and maybe do two at once, than I really hope the photo and letter are already there. Also that the inquiries don’t intimidate my child. It’s good to hear it didn’t frustrate your kids! My sponsored child is 7 and my son is 6. Once, I suggested to my son to draw Mark a picture and he was horrified. That surprised me, so I try to remember that Mark may feel the same as my son does when it comes to writing letters. Although I’m sure Mark likes receiving letters! Getting letters is cool no matter who you are!

My own son does not like writing letters a lot. But he loves the idea of writing to kids far away.  So we work within his limitations.  And use the experience to be more tolerant of the kids we are writing to.

Hi Holly! Christina already sent the inquiry for the 2016 gifts you never heard back about, but I just edited the inquiry to include the June gift for you as well since it was given on June 1st. We should receive a reply within the next six to eight weeks :).

Thank you so much Sarah and two the other two sponsors for helping me. Everyone is so great here! I’m excited to see what he picked out.
