Give so that you may Joyfully Serve
For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. (Matthew 6:21, NIV)
Several years ago instead of buying a material Christmas gift for myself, I began to sponsor a girl in the Philippines. I soon developed a committed and passionate spirit for letter writing (like Paul in the New Testament) and prayer; this is an important part of the one-to-one relationship with my sponsored child. The next Christmas season, I sponsored an additional child – what a blessing! I have been touched
by words in their letters of “I am praying for you” and “I love you” that these children have written. My
passion for letter writing continues today.

That same year, the Holy Spirit in me, led to me to do more for these children that were living in extreme poverty. I learned about serving as child advocate. I did not know exactly what that mea-nt, but I was ready and willing to take that step of faith. Today because of listening to God’s voice, I have been blessed and have blessed many sponsored children and adults considering sponsorship or advocacy.

So, I issue this challenge to you: How do you see yourself being involved in releasing children from poverty in God’s name, enabling and encouraging them to become responsible and fulfilled Christian adults?

Hello Paul.I see myself doing the same as you.Have you been able to visit your sponsor kids yet? I just returned from Nicaragua to see my 2 sponsor kids on an individual trip and see where they live and in October I go to Honduras on a sponsor group tour to see the 2 I have there.

So much for the American dream of money and materialism.I already have more than enough as it is.Don't we all if you think about it.

Let's get back to being like the 1st century church.I'm tired of these tv "preachers" with mansions and private jets. They may support ministries similar to Compassion but we'll never see Wess and Jimmy flying around the world like they do.
