I haven’t had an update on my child since the October 12 crisis update email regarding the earthquake in Haiti. How do I find out how my child and family are doing?

For crisis, generally no news is good news. They contact you when they find out your child was affected, but do not contact all sponsors with kids in the area

Hi Chriss,

I am thankful to let you know that Fabienca was not directly affected by the earthquake. :) Thank you for checking in on your sweet child!

I am also concerned about my sponsored child after the earthquake in Haiti. Communication from him is so delayed that I will be worried for months. Is there a way that I can find out about his safety sooner?

Hi  Amy! I completely understand that feeling! Your sweet boy, Wadly, was not impacted by the earthquake in Haiti :). He should be doing just fine. Please do continue to pray for the precious country of Haiti as the try to recover from such a disaster.

Are you able to confirm whether or not our boy in Haiti, Sterson Bonhomme, was affected by the earthquake?  He and his project are in the proximity of Port du Paix.  Last year he and his mother lost their home and income from the hurricane and it was months before we received any news as to the extent of their losses and if they had a place to live, etc.  We'd appreciate it very much if you can let us know if the earthquake this year caused any injury, serious loss, or displacement.  Thank you. --Mitchel and Kathleen Young, Sponsor# 07160500

Mitchel and Kathleen, I can confirm that Sterson was not affected by the earthquake in Haiti this month. In fact, no children from his project were impacted at all :). Thanks for checking in with me again!

This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled Pierre Anderson Joseph's Condition and that of his Family.

We were told that we would be contacted as to the condition of Pierre and his family after the last tragedy. I have heard nothing. I assume that they are alive, but no confirmation of this was sent to us. Please send an Email to confirm the conditions of Pierre and his family.

HelloRordam,

Please know we are very sorry that you have been worried about Pierre! Typically when something like this happens, we are only able to update supporters who have kiddos have been affected, only because there are so many children and so sadly so many disasters like this. So thankfully, I am happy to let you know that Pierre was not directly affected by the disaster and neither was his Compassion center! Thank you again for your kind heart to support this young man! :)

I would also like to know if our sponsored child (HA083300547) Steevens home/area was affected. Thanks!

Hello Randy and Kari, I appreciate your care and concern for Steevens. Thankfully, neither he or his family have been affected by the recent earthquake. I encourage you to take a moment to write to Steevens to let him know that you are thinking of him. I know he would be grateful to hear from you.

Leah, Thank you so much for letting us know! We truly appreciate it. We have a letter and a postcard in the mail.
I have another question pertaining to gifts and Christmas gifts. Do I understand correctly that a gift/donation does not go directly to Steevens? Or is that just for the Christmas gift? Looks like it would be split between all sponsored kids? Are birthday or “other” gifts directed in the same way?
Thanks!
Kari

Hi Kari! When you give your child a Christmas gift, this option donates to the Christmas Gift Fund. All Christmas donations are combined and then divided evenly among every child in our program. With this fund, we purchase a meaningful gift specifically for each child and help purchase gifts for children who are not yet sponsored or whose sponsors are not able to give. We do this because we want every child to receive a gift and to be included in a special Christmas celebration at their church-based center. What matters the most is that your child will know that the gift they receive is from you - making it even more special.

You may also give directly to your child by choosing to give a Child Gift, Birthday Gift, or Family Gift. These gifts will not be pooled; they will only be used for you child. When your child and their family receive this gift, a Compassion staff member will assist them in purchasing a gift for your child. Of course, you may make recommendations on how you would like the money to be used. However, the use of the gift is ultimately up to the family, so if they have an immediate need, they may use the gift to help meet that need. You can expect to receive a thank you letter from your about six months after the gift is given, letting you know what was purchased. If the gift amount is $60 or more, you will also receive a photo of what was purchased.

I hope this information is helpful! Please let us know if you have any additional questions or concerns. Have a blessed day!
