My young man in Kenya has written to me about struggling with set books in his school. I know (now) what they are, and wonder if there is something I can purchase to help him. I don't know if there are enough books to go around or if he has to share with another student (or students). He will be taking the KCSE soon and I would like to make sure he has the proper materials to study for that. I do not know how well-equipped his school is, and I don't know if he would be able to purchase materials if I sent a monetary gift. He is in a rural area. I have written to him asking these questions, but with the mail turnaround time and then the time involved with getting a monetary gift processed, I feel like precious time is being lost.

Any suggestions?

Hi Leslie! I appreciate your care and concern for this young man! Your encouragement and your interest in his studies is making a huge difference! I wish we could check into this, but regrettably, we would not be able to send an inquiry to our field office in Kenya regarding this concern.

The best thing to do is to send a monetary gift and designate it for his schooling, books, or study materials for the KCSE. You may place this gift online through the "My Account" section of www.compassion.com. Follow the link for "Additional Gifts" and type your designation for the gift in the "Special Instructions" box. When the gift is delivered, the local Compassion staff will meet with your sponsored child and we will help him purchase something beneficial to him in this situation.
