We have been going through the gift catalog and were wondering how the animal are provided to the families? Knowing what I know about Compassion, I would assume it through the local center from a local provider? We've heard horror stories about other organization's animals being dead or sick on arrival.

Thank you!

Hi Lauren! We provide the gifts in the gift catalog based on proposal from families in our programs who really need the extra assistance. As Compassion works with the local church partner who is in the community long term, everything we do is through relationship with the local church. The families are not simply given handouts but the assistance is a part of a long term relationship with that family. I personally believe that the relationships with sponsors and staff is what is on of the most impactful ways that we release people from poverty in the long term. The relationship in a way also ensures quality because the church and staff will be there in the community after the gift is given and will have to answer to complaints. Most importantly, when a family receives livestock, they not only receive the animal, but also all the resources and training needed to turn the animals into a sustaining income for the family for years to come.
