I need to cancel my sponsorship. How do I do that?

Katie, I'm so sorry to hear that you're going through a difficult time right now with your finances. I can only imagine how hard this decision must be for you to make. I pray that God would bless your circumstances and that He will surround you with peace and comfort and provide for all of your needs during this time as you're going through this situation and getting back on your feet.

Please know that I don't work for Compassion, but I wanted to make sure that you were aware that Compassion has some assistance available to sponsors who are struggling with short-term financial difficulties. They are willing to cover your support for you for three months and then reduce your support to $19 for up to six months to help ease some of the financial burden and hopefully allow you to continue in your relationship with your sponsored child.

I hope that you will prayerfully consider whether this assistance might fit your circumstances and allow you to continue your sponsorship. If you would, please just post back here and let the staff at Compassion know so that they will be able to assist you with whichever decision you need to make. God bless you, and I sincerely hope that your situation improves quickly.

Katie, I'm sorry that you're experiencing financial difficulties but we certainly understand if it's impacted your ability to sponsor Katerin right now and we can certainly help you. Regrettably, your name is not located on the account and the primary sponsor also has a different last name. For security purposes we must have the primary sponsor's permission to cancel a sponsorship. Are you related to Suzanne in some way? Please ask her to contact us to confirm that she wishes to discontinue as she is the primary sponsor on the account and the only one whose name is attached to Katerin. At that time, we're happy to make Katerin available for another sponsor.

Katie, I did some further research and I was able to find your kiddo! I transposed the child ID number by mistake and pulled up a different sponsors account; so sorry about that! You can disregard the post above as I found your account and sponsorship of Nestor in El Salvador. I have made him available for another sponsor today. Amanda, school is like a full time job in itself. We are so grateful for the sacrifice you've made in supporting Abdoul but don't want it to stress you out while you're in school. I have made Abdoul available for another sponsor, today. I see that you also emailed with us and one of our representatives responded to you but you can disregard that email as I have taken care of your request today. Thank you so very much for the difference you've made in Abdoul's life and please know that you're always welcome to sponsor again with us in the future. Good luck in school!

At this time we are going to discontinue our sponsorship for Aloka Soren. Our Sponsor Number is 390963. Because of the suspension in her country, we have taken the opportunity to support babies through another charity instead. Aloka deserves a sponsor who is faithful in their writing and encouragement. Through this other charity, I won't need to write as our support goes to help take care of abandoned babies. However, we will continue to pray for this precious girl. Thanks for understanding.

Jody, you and Doug have been faithful sponsors with Compassion for over 26 years. Wow! Please know how deeply grateful we are to you for the love and support you have ministered to children over the years. You have changed the story for children in our program and God has used you in incredible ways.

I certainly understand and respect if you have been led to give elsewhere at this time and I will make Aloka available for another sponsor, today. I'm so encouraged that your family is still drawn with a passion to help children and I pray that God blesses your future endeavors.

You're always welcome to sponsor again with us at anytime. And in the future, please know that if you want to be a financial sponsor and have someone else write to your child that maybe cannot take on the financial part of sponsorship, we do have that option available :). God bless you both!

My previously child aged out of the program and I was assigned a new child? I never actively consented to sponsor a new child, though I may have received a letter suggesting that I ought to. I received several letters like that during my previous sponsorship, so I disregarded it. Apparently, that was a bad idea, because now I have to feel like a bad guy by canceling this new sponsorship. What is the best way to do that?

Maria, I am so sorry for the frustration about a new child being automatically assigned to you. I know that it is Compassion's heart and desire to see children sponsored but they in no way want to offend anyone or make anyone feel guilty in doing so. If a sponsor's child leaves the program then Compassion will contact that sponsor and let them know that they will assign them another child unless the sponsor declines. I believe that Compassion adopted this procedure at the request of many of their sponsors. About 75% of sponsors go on to sponsor another child after their child leaves the program. Please know that I don't work for Compassion, but if you would like to cancel your new sponsorship then one of the ladies at Compassion who monitors this support community would be able to assist you, probably when they are back in the office tomorrow. Again, I sincerely apologize for the misunderstanding.

Maria, please accept my sincere apologies for the misunderstanding and that you did not see the letter we sent to you. We certainly have no intention of deceiving you or trying to trick you into sponsoring another child and don't want you to feel badly for not supporting another child after Veronica left. You have faithfully and selflessly given from the goodness of your heart for over nine years and we value and appreciate the difference you made in your child's life. There is absolutely no obligation to sponsor another child and we certainly understand if you feel led to discontinue at this time.

I have made Lisa available for another sponsor today. Thank you for helping Veronica reach the point she did in our program. Your love and support have impacted her life and allowed her to become a self employed tailor and a responsible and fulfilled Christian adult. You truly helped to release this precious young lady from poverty in Jesus' name! God bless you and please let me know if there is any other way that I can assist you.

Hi Oksana, I am sorry to hear that you have to stop your support of Lowasa. We would love to help you stay connected to Lowasa while you are going through a hard finacial time. Would it be helpful if Compassion covered a few months of your support, so that you can continue to sponsor Lowasa?

I have been sponsoring children through your organization for a while and have loved it, but unfortunately real-life events have caused me to need to cancel my sponsorship for the forseeable future.

Hey William! You can always call (800) 336-7676, Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. MT to speak to a Compassion representative. I believe that any of those representatives would also be able to assist you with your account. By the way, I'm always so impressed with how friendly and helpful everyone is every time that I call up there!

Hey Adam. I know. I have talked with them many times. When I do call there is a waiting time because of a high volume of calls. This way is easier. I too am impressed with the way they go all out to help everyone.

William, I don't think I've ever had to wait when calling Compassion which is always kind of a shock to me because I'm used to waiting on hold with the phone calls I make in my line of work. Compassion always answers the phone right away when I call. I usually call around noon when I'm driving home on my lunch break.

Hi Susan. I did get through quickly this time.Most of the time I do,sometimes there's a high volume of calls.Sometimes I do it this way so one of you can call me when you can.It was all worked out on the phone earlier.All of you do a great job helping sponsors with their questions.Have a blessed day.

Hello ,
I am at a financially hard place right now and will not be able to continue my sponsorship. I have taken some time off before and they helped me to keep my sponsorship but I this time I think it would be best to stop.

Jessica, I am so sorry to hear that you need to cancel and for the confusion with the website. We like to be able to talk with our sponsors before they cancel their support to see if there is any way that we could have better served them. We do have some options that in some cases can help keep the relationship going between sponsor and child. For example, I noticed you emailed and we offered to cover your support through the end of October and then to lower your support amount to $19 for six months. Please let me know if this would help. If not, I will make your child available for another one-to-one sponsor. Please know that your automatic withdrawal has been stopped so you are free to make a decision one way or another.

I regretfully say that I will have to cancel my sponsorship. I am a student, and so far I have had a job with an income that enabled me to sponsor Breisy. However, I have recently started nursing school and will no longer have a job or an income. It hurts my heart tremendously, but I will no longer be able to continue this sponsorship. Could you please direct me how to do this?

Hannah, I am so sorry that you are faced with such a difficult decision but I understand. With nursing school, starting you really need to focus on that for the long haul. As you requested, I have made Breisy available for another sponsor. Please know that she will remain in our program until we are able to find another loving sponsor to invest in her. What an exciting transition into nursing school and I wish you all the best as you continue your studies!

We do have some options that may be able to help if you think that things might turn around in the next three to nine months. For example, we would be happy to cover your support for three months and then lower your support amount to $19 for six months. Please let me know if this would help. Mitchell, I'm very sorry to hear that you are needing to cancel your sponsorship of Souvik at this time. You are an honored sponsor and partner in this ministry. Please forgive me as I'm not sure why you were needing to cancel, but if you're going through a difficult financial situation, and you think it might be short-term, then I wanted to make sure that you know that Compassion does have some options available to help sponsors with their support and to try to help them maintain their relationship with their sponsored child. They are willing to cover your support for three months and then temporarily reduce your payments to $19 for up to six months. I hope that maybe discontinuing your additional giving as well as taking this option might fit your situation and allow you to continue sponsoring. The Compassion offices will be back open on Monday and so, if you will, please consider this option and please let the Compassion staff know if this would help or not so that they will be able to assist you with whichever decision that you need to make at this time. If you still need to cancel I completely understand and wish you all the best.

I have updated your account so that your support is current through the end of November. We will not pull another donation until December from your account. Come December, if your situation hasn't changed, please let us know and we're happy to work with you!

Wow, praying for you in this transition, Linda. I know that it can be tough and scary to not go into retirement with much. God is faithful though! My grandmother had lost most of her savings due to the poor decisions of her late husband but received an unexpected inheritance from an uncle. Between that and working part time into her late 70s she was able to stay afloat. I will pray for provision and grace for you. As you requested, I have made Estrella available for another sponsor and stopped your automatic withdrawal.

They are willing to cover your support for three months and then temporarily reduce your support to $19 for up to six months to help take some of the financial burden off during this time and hopefully allow you to maintain your relationships with your sponsored children. I hope this might help you to be able to continue sponsoring. Please consider this option and let the Compassion staff who monitor this community know if this would help so that they will be able to assist you with whichever decision that you need to make at this time. I sincerely hope and pray for you and your family that your circumstances improve very soon.
