I hope they said they you CAN'T communicate with your child through facebook.  While the child is in the Compassion program, we are not allowed to communicate with them through any social media or their family members.  All communication must be through letters that go through Compassion, so that everyone remains safe.  If you are contacted by your child, you are not to become friends with them.  They are supposed to be told this at the project, but sometimes they do it anyway.  Once they have graduated from the Compassion program, then you are allowed to communicate with them.  I am sure Compassion will look into this, because this absolutely is not allowed.

Hi Noel! It sounds like there was a misunderstanding when you visited our Mobile Experience. I'm deeply sorry for any incorrect information that you were given. Many of the individuals that help out at these events are volunteers. We try to train them on any questions they'll receive before they volunteer, but it sounds like there was some confusion with this one.

As Debbie mentioned, communication with your child outside of letter writing is not allowed. In order to protect both parties, Compassion does not allow direct communication between children and their sponsors. We can only ensure the privacy and safety of both the child and sponsor when communication is exclusively done through Compassion. The children and their families are aware of this too, having agreed to the communication guidelines as soon as they are registered in the program. You can learn more about why we ask you to not communicate with your child over Facebook on our blog.

We want your relationship with your kiddo to be a positive experience and we appreciate you double checking with us! :) Let us know if you have other questions.
