I noticed that sponsors can choose whether to receive their child's original letter or a scanned copy. I know the scanned copies are supposed to be quicker, but there seems to be something special about holding the same paper my children touched, particularly for the first letter. Do you have any thoughts about which is best?

Hi Rebekah. Since the new system was implemented in April, I have been receiving my letters by email and scanned copy. The email letters are definitely faster, by perhaps 2 weeks, but I still like to have the hard copy. And I understand the scanned copy is faster than the original letters. I know what you mean about how special it is to actually hold the letter that was in your child's hands!! I do miss that. Is it possible to get the letter by email so you have it right away, then also get the original letter by mail?

Beth, yes, you can receive the original letter by mail and the copy via email. That said, any of the options include the ability to view your letters on your My Account. In addition, original letters take many months to be delivered.

I personally only get them electronically, and I love this new system that Compassion has implemented. Having sponsored various kids over the years through both Compassion and World Vision, I have enjoyed holding the physical letters in my hands, but I have stacks and stacks of them in drawers. For a while, I was putting them in a notebook in sheet protectors, but that was becoming time consuming and they'd pile up before I had a chance to sit down and put them in. When I came back to sponsoring with Compassion this past August after the new changes had been implemented, I thought about doing both electronic and opting to receive the original copy, but I felt it would be so much easier for me to not have all of that paper around. So, in short, it's electronic only for me. :)
