If my child lives a distance(potentially 17 miles from center) how would he get to his center? He is in the Dominican Republic in Los Frios and it looks like his center is quite the distance. I hope arrangements are made for the children’s to travel.

Hi Barbara! This is great question! We actually require the children to live within 30 minutes walking distance from the Compassion center. However, on a case-by-case basis, we sometimes make exceptions to this rule. In that case, we do help the child and their caregiver make arrangements to travel to the center. For example, my sponsor child in Kenya actually takes a Tuk Tuk (a sort of motorcycle taxi) to the center since he lives further away. We always make sure they have a safe way to get to the center, and we help make arrangements if needed.

If the information you found about your child's location was based on our app, I do also want to note that those locations are approximate, since we want to keep your child's specific location safe. You can definitely ask in your next letter how he gets to his center! He may love sharing a part of his day with you through his letters.

I hope this helps answer your question, but please let us know if you have any other questions!
