I just recently sponsored an 11 year old girl in Ecuador. I wrote my first letter to her on the form in the packet on 1-23-15. How often should I write to her?

Hey Barbara!  That's so exciting that you sponsored your first child.  I know she'll be so thrilled to hear from you!  My best advice for writing is to stick to a schedule you can keep up.  For me, writing every 4-6 weeks is do-able.  That way my kids are getting letters consistently and I receive reply letters from them about every 8 weeks.  Others write more or less often than that depending on how much time they can devote to it.  Compassion kids will write to their sponsors twice a year regardless of whether or not they receive any letters from their sponsors.  However, if the sponsor writes, the child will write replies to the letters they receive every 2 months, so up to 6 letters a year.  It takes 2-3 months for letters to get to your child and then another 2-3 months for her replies to get back to you, so it may take a little time to get a rhythm going at first.

Congratulations again on sponsoring and I hope you develop a wonderful relationship with your girl!

Hi Barbara, Welcome to the wonderful world of child sponsorship!  I correspond with a little girl from Equador also.  I try to hand write one letter each month so that I can put little treasures like pictures, stickers, postcards, etc. in with them, and also send one online letter each month.  Everyone is different, but I'm sure the children LOVE getting letters and getting a letter every month is probably very encouraging for them and makes them very happy.  Just think how excited WE get when we get a letter from them!  I agree that consistency is the key!
