It is my hope that Correspondents commit to going above and beyond the required 3 letters per year. Many of us aim to write at least once a month, with the idea that we can't send TOO much love and encouragement!

I am asking this question for a friend: Can you become a correspondence sponsor if you are not a financial sponsor? Also how exactly do you become a correspondence sponsor? Thanks so much!

Yes, you may correspond with a child even if you are not a financial sponsor. You can read how to become a correspondent above.

I see testimonials from others who have chosen to be correspondence sponsors to children who do not receive letters, but I cannot find a link to be able to sign up to do this. I would love to brighten a child's day with my letters, but do not have the financial ability to be able to monetarily sponsor another child (I am already a Compassion sponsor for a child). Please help me out- I love to write and would love to have another child or two to pour God's love into!

My friend has 2 children that are paid for by a large corporation and are not able to write those children. She writes to them as if she is the one financially responsible for them. How do I participate in this type of sponsorship?

Bridgette, we certainly hope that this organization that just sponsored 1000 children from Kenya will sponsor with us for a long time! I am sorry as I regrettably cannot tell you how long they will sponsor. While we cannot control or predict the future, we know the One who does, and we know that He is faithful! :)

Also, this organization has sent only the monthly support at this point. We are asking them to send birthday gifts and Christmas gifts, but there is no way to tell if they will at this point. I would send a gift if you feel led to do so, and if you both send a gift, the child will be doubly blessed!

I currently sponsor two children in India.  While I'm not able to financially sponsor any more, I would love to add correspondence children to my account, because I love to write letters!  How do I go about doing that?

We would be delighted to have you write to a child! To start the process, please post here, email ciinfo@us.ci.org, or call us at (800) 336-7676. We assign correspondents for sponsors who do not have the time or desire to write, and as soon as an opening becomes available, we can assign a child to you. At that time, we will send you an information packet for the child, as well as writing instructions.

The requirement to be a correspondent is a commitment to write at least three times a year. In turn, you will receive three letters a year from the child. Our experience has shown that children who receive consistent encouragement tend to set higher goals for themselves. Your role is a very important aspect of our ministry.

Addyson, I'm sorry about this situation and that you're no longer able to write to your kiddo :(. But thank you for the difference you made in her life during the time you were her correspondent. You were such a faithful letter writer, you don't even have to apply! I will just go ahead and add you to the waiting list for another correspondent child to be assigned to you at the next available opportunity. God bless!

I would like to have a Correspondence child.

I have spoken to Wendy Jager who sponsor`s a child and also she writes letters to other children in need of correspondence. My name is Lana Ottinger we sponsor Ishwarya Ravi IN5290153. I would be willing to write to a child any where that child may live at any age or gender. Wendy stated for me to write and request that I have the time and desire to write. My husband and I have sponsored and wrote letters to Ishwarya for six years. I have been a Pediatric nurse since 1969 and truly want to make another child smile that they receive a letter. I do not want to sponsor another child but am willing to write. Thank you. Lana Ottinger lanajottinger@ gmail.com

Hi Susan,

I received a new correspondent young man (too old to be a boy!) form Ethiopia in April but still have not received his photo / intro packet... I wasn't sure how long it usually took to get that but I thought maybe I should check in. I have the packets on my other kids, and have gotten the updates regularly so it's just Moyata who is missing. He has his own spot waiting for the photo when I get it.

Thanks,

Andrea

Hi David! I'd be happy to add you to the waiting list, but regrettably I was unable to locate your account from your name and email address. If you are a current sponsor, please post one of your child ID numbers here or email your contact information to socialmedia@compassion.com so that I can setup an account for you.

I have been a sponsor for about 2 months and just became an advocate but I would love to do more.  I can't afford to sponsor another child but I herd from a friend about the option of becoming a correspondent but I can't find anything on the compassion's website on how to become one.

Hello! How many kids am I on the waiting list for? I know I was on initially for 2 or 3, but as soon as one was added they were taken off and I was back at the end of the waiting list. I was wondering if that child counted as one of them? Thank you! I just had another child today added :)

Hello! I have another question.  I was notified that two of my kids were no longer able to be written to and that there would be a "replacement" later on.  I would actually not like to be put back on the list for a replacement as my schooling is getting super busy right now and I am content with the other 6 children.  Thank you :)
