I need to cancel my sponsorship. How do I do that?

Hi there! Please know that we want to do everything we can to help you to keep the relationship that you have with your child. If you are going through a short term financial difficulty, we have some options that may be able to help. However, if our options are not able to help you in your specific situation, we can make your child available for another sponsor. 

We are here to help! If you need to stop sponsoring, please post here on this online community, email us at ciinfo@us.ci.org, or call 800-336-7676. We will work with each of you to see how we can best assist you in your situation.

May I ask if there was anything we could have done to serve you better? I see that one of our representatives has replied to the email that you sent to us with the same inquiry. If we are unable to assist you in the options that were offered in the email, please let us know and we will place Kevia back up for sponsorship.

I am going to have to regrettably cancel my sponsorship as well. I have run into some financial issues that I will need to take care of before I can continue to sponsor. I plan on coming back but right now, its just not working for my bank account. =( Please cancel asap. Thank you!

Hi, I am unfortunately unable to continue sponsoring my child at this time. Can you please issue another sponsor for her. It breaks my heart to do this but I can't provide the finances any longer. Thought I could manage it but I can't. Praying she gets a sponsor quick! Blessings.

Kala, taking care of your family is certainly priority and I understand if right now is not a good time for you to sponsor a child. Regrettably, I was unable to locate your account by your name and email address. Please post your child's reference number on here and I am happy to locate your account and make your child available for another sponsor. I pray that your situation would improve and the Lord would provide for your family. 

Diana, thank you so much for your families sacrifice in supporting your child during the time you were able to. I see that you called our office earlier this morning and one of our representatives has taken care of your account for you. Please let me know if I can assist you further!

Brandy, thank you so much for the love and encouragement that you poor out to 14 children! I am sorry to hear that you are experiencing struggles financially and need to cancel. You mentioned that you would like to come back with us at some point.  Before I make Karina available for another sponsor, I want to make sure you are aware that we do have options available to help you continue supporting the same child. Your support is currently paid through the end of September. Compassion would be happy to cover your support for the months of October through December and we could also temporarily reduce your rate to $19 for up to 6 months. Please let me know if this would help you while you get caught up in other areas and I will update your account today. If not, please let me know and I will make her available for another sponsor. 

Kara, I know this is a very difficult decision to make and I am sorry that you have been faced with this :(. I see that you signed up to give an extra $7 each month to our Highly Vulnerable Children's fund. I don't know what your personal situation looks like, but if the rate for supporting Clare each month is too much because of that extra giving, we would be happy to remove this from your account. If we do this, it would reduce your rate permanently to just the $38 per month for sponsorship. We would also be willing to cover the month of August for you and temporarily reduce your rate further to $19 per month for up to 6 months beginning this month. If this would help you out, please let me know. If not, I understand and can make Clare available for another sponsor at that time.

Emily, yes, please cover through December and then reduce the payments to $19.00 for the following 6 months. That would help tremendously. We just found out that we are expecting a baby of our own and having some difficulties. Thank you so much. I didn't want to give Karina up!!!

Jeanna, I am so sorry to hear you need to discontinue your sponsorship of Byron and I have stopped your automatic donations effective today. Because you have been faithfully supporting this boy for almost 8 years now, it makes me wonder if there was anything we could have done to serve you better. If this is due to financial constraints, I do want to make sure you are aware that there are options available for you before removing him from your account.  Compassion would be happy to cover 3 months of support for you as well as temporarily reduce your rate to $19 for up to 6 months. If either or both of these options would help you maintain your relationship with your boy, please let me know and I will update your account. If not, I will make him available for another sponsor today.

I don't know exactly what your situation looks like but I want to let you know that we do have options for our sponsor's who are going through short term difficulties and want to maintain the relationship with their child. I see that your account is currently a bit behind. Compassion would be happy to cover the months missed as well as cover your support through the end of November. We would also be willing to temporarily reduce your rate to $19 for 6 months beginning in December. Please let me know if this would help you out and I will update your account. I understand how hard it can be to decide which child to continue supporting but I assure you we will work hard to find Ntwari another sponsor as quickly as possible. I do see that you have been supporting them for 2 years now and it makes me wonder if we could have done anything to serve you better. If this is due to short term financial difficulties, I want to make sure you're aware that we do have options available to help you out for a time and allow you to continue with your children.

We would be happy to reduce your rate to $19 per child for up to 6 months if this would help you out. Please let me know if you would like to take advantage of this option for one, two, or all three of your children and I will update your account. If not, please let me know and I will make your children available for another sponsor today.

Jackie, my heart goes out to your family as I know it must be very difficult to lose a job and large portion of income. I certainly pray that job opportunities open up quickly for your husband and that the Lord would provide for you both as you work to get back on your feet. Before I completely cancel your account; you have been an incredible sponsor to Michaela over the past several years and we want to do everything possible to help you maintain your relationship with her if we can. You're certainly more aware of your personal situation than I am, but we would love to cover the next three months of support for Michaela. We could also reduce your rate to $19 for up to six months if this additional support would relieve you at all. Please let me know if one or both of these options would help you. We don't want this to be a burden on you so please let me know if this would not work under the circumstances and I will make your girl available for another sponsor.

Hi, I received notice recently that my sponsored child is no longer attending the program. I then received a letter yesterday saying that my sponsorship will be automatically transferred to another child. We do have some options for sponsors experiencing a short term financial difficulty. For example, we would be happy to cover your support for a few months or even lower your support amount to $19 for up to six months if it would help. I am so sad to have to cancel my sponsorship as well. I am behind on payments due to my bank severally messing my account up and allowing someone other than myself have my personal account information. I have since moved banks and am regrouping. I am looking to do a few dollars in my local offering and hope soon to be able to support again. I really am sad over this decision. I will make payments to bring my account back to a positive number but will not be able to do so while continuing to sponsor. My donor number is 2971787.

That can be such a difficult and long process to go through in trying to catch back up :(. We certainly do not want this sponsorship to be a burden on you or cause any extra stress but I do want to make sure you are aware of options available to you, that may help you maintain the relationship you have building with Shelove. Compassion could cover your months missed as well as a couple extra months and even reduce your rate temporarily. Please let me know if it would help you for us to cover your support through the end of November and then beginning in December, reduce your rate to $19 for 6 months. Hopefully this will give you time to get everything settled with your bank and get your barrings back. If not, I understand and can make Shelove available for another sponsor.

Hello. I have only been sponsoring for a couple months and just experienced a cut in my hours at work and will not be able to afford to sponsor any longer. How do I stop sponsoring and make my sponsor child available for someone else?

I am very sorry but unfortunately i need to cancel my sponsorship, If possible before the 21st. My job cut hours big time and on top of bills i have i am unable to afford the sponsorship at this time, If things get better later on i would love to do it again but i will continue to keep praying .

Before completely stopping your sponsorship of Alok, I wanted to make sure you were aware of an option that we have available that may help you out. We could reduce your rate to $19 for up to 6 months if you would like, and re evaluate after that time to see if your situation has improved. Thank you so much for all that you have done for her over the years! You have already made such a difference and been such an encouragement to her. I wanted to make sure you are aware that if you need to cancel due to short term financial difficulty, we would be happy to work with you to help you to keep the relationship that you have built. For example, we could cover your support for three months and then lower your support amount to $19 for six months. Please let me know if this would help. If not, let me know and I'll make your child available for another sponsor. I have stopped your automatic withdrawal to give you time to respond.

I am very sorry to hear that you are struggling right now and I pray that your situation improves very soon. If you need to discontinue, you're welcome to write to Riziki one more time to say goodbye. Please just write 'Final Letter' at the top so that it is processed correctly.

Before I make Riziki available for another sponsor, I want to make sure you are aware that we have options available for you that may help you maintain your sponsorship with your girl. I see that you give an extra $7 each month towards our Medical fund. If we remove this extra giving, it would reduce your rate to $38 to just support your child. We would also be able to even further reduce your rate temporarily to $19 for up to 6 months. If this would help you, please let me know and I will update your account. If not, just reply on this forum and I will make your child available for another sponsor. I have stopped your automatic withdrawals on your account so that you are not charged while we wait for your reply.

We have medical bills, that we are going to be paying on for over two years, so the 6 month amount will not be able to help us. Thank you for that option though, we really wish we could still sponsor her, but we know that someone will take over her sponsorship and she will be okay.  Thank you for helping us.

We were sponsoring a little boy from Columbia, and, unfortunately, due to health reasons and the loss of my father, I didn't do as much as I thought I should have to stay in touch. Then, the child left our area. Without asking, Compassion automatically gave us another child. Had I been asked, I would have said, "No. I don't have it in me right now to attempt to minister to the child." I attempted to call several times to speak to a sponsor. I was repeatedly told call volume was higher than usual and then hung up on. When I looked at the phone, another digit had been added to the end of the phone number I typed in. It is expensive and I certainly understand if $38 is not feasible in your current situation and point of your life. We have had our Yoari Montero for over a year now but we are splitting up and I cannot afford her on my own. I hope one day once I get back on my feet I will be able to sponsor again.

I am starting school full-time and am trying to resolve my living situation. I am very sad that I cannot afford to continue sponsoring but hope to rejoin the program at some point when my finances are more stable. :-(

Tatiana, it sounds like you have a lot going on in your life right now and a lot of transition. I know that making this decision can be difficult and I am sorry that your situation does not allow you to continue supporting Niyokwizerwa at this time in your life. I understand and have made Niyokwizerwa available for another sponsor today. We do have other opportunities to give that may fit better in your budget and still allow you to bless children. Danielle, I'm so sorry that you are faced with such a difficult decision. While, I'm not sure exactly what your situation is, I wanted to make sure you are aware that we have some options to help sponsors who are experiencing a short term financial difficulty. For example, we would be happy to cover your support for three months. Please let me know if this would help to get you through this rough spot. If not, let me know and I'll make your child available for another sponsor.

Anna, I understand. We all go through times when we are strapped for cash. Is this a situation that might improve in three to nine months? If so, we would be happy to work with you to help you to keep the relationship that you have with your child. For example, we could cover your support for three months and then lower your support amount to $19 for six months. Please let me know if this would help. If not, please let me know and I'll make your child available for another sponsor. Please do not feel any pressure either way. I just want to make sure you are aware of your options.

Lois, I sincerely apologize that you were unable to reach us this morning. Regrettably, our main office in located in Colorado Springs, CO. This means that, although we open the phones at 7AM Monday through Friday, we are on Mountain Time. It looks like you live in an Eastern Time zone and missed us by about thirty-five minutes when you called. I am so sorry for that. 

We want to be completely upfront with you about where your money is going. This is why we sent you this letter in advance, letting you know that your child's student center is under examination for the next 90 days until November 15 and we will not be sending funding to them during this time. You are completely entitled to decide willingly whether to continue to give to us as an organization while we bring this center up to our standards. However, I understand that you simply would like to cancel your sponsorship indefinitely. I have made your child available for another sponsor as of today. We so appreciate the love and support that you have provided for this young lady over the last year and a half! Please let me know if I can be of further assistance.

I unfortunately need to cancel my account, I had it on hold for a few months while I tried to find a job but was not able to, and I don't have the money :( I really want Mavis to be able to get another sponsor quickly.. so sad to have to cancel it.. Thank you.

Regrettably, we have two sponsor's in our system with your name and I couldn't find an account under your email address. I need to cancel my sponsorship of Sofia Isabel Tan #PH5540179. We had some issues with our credit card being hacked and now my husband has been diagnosed with cancer.   We believe the cancer has been totally removed (praise God), but the medical bills are piling up and we choose not to sponsor any longer.

Peggy, it sounds like you have a lot on your mind right now. I am so sorry that your husband was diagnosed with cancer. I can imagine that the credit card fraud combined with the medical bills alone could cause some stress. I pray that the cancer stays in remission for a long time and that you will be able to get back on your feet financially again soon. As you requested, I have made Sofia available for another sponsor. Please let us know if we can help in any other way.

Kory, I am very sorry that you have experienced financial setbacks. I know it can be especially hard when they are so unexpected and I pray that the Lord would provide for you during this time. When circumstances like this come up for our sponsor's; our hope is to offer relief and help them maintain their sponsorship if it is a short term situation. We would love to cover your sponsorship for 3 months if this would allow you time to get back on your feet again. We would also be willing to temporarily reduce your rate to $19 for up to 6 months if needed. Please let me know if you would be interested in either or both of these options and I will update your account. If not, let me know and I will make Fredrick available for another sponsor. In the meantime, I have stopped your automatic donations until we hear back from you.

Please know that you're welcome to write her a final letter to say goodbye. We just ask that you mail it in with the words 'Final Letter' written at the top so that it is processed correctly. Hi Emily,
I just noticed that I still had a donation automatically taken out of my bank account after the date that you had responded to me that let me know you had canceled my sponsorship. The date on my bank account was 9/23/2014 and I was supposed to have had my sponsorship canceled on 9/22/2014 (I had initially tried to get a hold of someone on the 20th). Can you look into this please? I would like that put back into my account :)

Carla, I sincerely apologize for the extra charge and for any inconvenience this may have caused for you. Automatic donations are sent to the bank at the end of the day on the day before their scheduled date. This means that for this last donation, it was sent to your bank at the end of the day on Friday September 19 for the September 20th withdrawal. Because we typically are out of the office on the weekend, we responded first thing on Monday the 22. Your sponsorship was canceled but the donation was already in process and could not have been stopped. However, I have submitted a refund for this $38 to be put back in your bank account. Again, we greatly appreciate your partnership over the last four years and are very sorry for the inconvenience in this last transaction.
