It can take 2-3 months for your child to get their letter. Here is a great video blog that shows the process that has to happen before your child receives their letter :-)

Also, I heard that when you send a letter online it will get to your child about two weeks sooner than by a hand written letter

If I write an online letter and include photos doesn't it slow down the process just the same as if I had sent it by snail mail? What is the quality of the photos sent? Are they as good as photos mailed?

Online letters are still printed out in Colorado regardless of whether pictures are attached or not.
You can attach up to 3 pictures. You get to crop them and they are printed on the bottom portion of the front side of the letter. They look like they are about 2-3 inches tall.

Hi Bridgette! Athena is absolutely right :). But just to add on to that a little bit, the letters you write online are printed off on high quality paper here in our office so that your child still have a nice, neat, tangible letter to take home and put in a special place. Your photo will print in the quality that it's uploaded to the letter. So if your picture is clear and not pixilated, and is digital rather than scanned, you can expect it to come out very crisp and clear to see. Our online writing tool is a fun way for our sponsor's to conveniently write letters that are still special to their children if they don't have the desire or the time to sit and write a hand written letter. Either way you decide to write to your child, your letter will take 2-3 months to reach them :).

Ahh, so online writing will not make the process faster, right?

And if I hand-write my letter and send it to the HQ, will my sponsored child receive the original copy or scanned copy? Or will she get a typed-up version?

Do I have to print my picture separately?

Thanks

Hi Hananiel_s! That's correct about the letter time frame as it takes 2-3 months no matter how you send your letter (written or online or by mobile device). If you hand write your letter, your child will get the original copy with your handwriting and not a typed up copy. We mail it to our country office and someone reads your letter and writes the translation on your original letter if there is room or another piece of paper if there's not room.

Also, don't worry about printing your pictures separately. If you upload pictures to your online letter, we will ensure that they're printed onto the letter in high quality. If you send a hand written letter, then yes, you will need to first print out your pictures and attach them to the letter :).

Will the online writing section get to the children faster than actually mailing the letters? How long to the online letters take to get to the children?

Thanks.

It can take up to three months for you child to receive your online letter because Compassion prints them off in their Colorado office. You can read more about the process on my blog- http://lizzieforcompassion.blogspot.c...

I am currently sponsoring two children from the Philippines and I wrote to them back in October 2012 and did not get any response from either children. I just wrote to them again today December 22, 2012 (online letters.) How often will I be able to get any response from them. I would really love to hear from them to see how they are doing. Thank you.

Hi Kathy! I have sponsored children for years! It takes like 3 months from when they write for their letter to get to you at the least. So if you wrote on October they likely have not even gotten your letter yet. I write to my kids about EVERY week online (nice and easy) and every year receive about 2 letters from them! IT's awesome just keep writing and be patient and you likely will hear back from you kids. :D God Bless you!!!

I just wrote my child his fist letter but I wrote it online. Does it still take like 3 months for me to hear back from him?

Online letters.

I wrote to my boys with the online writing link in April for the first time. Usually I hand write my letter. How does this method differ from the traditional hand written letters? Do they receive them faster? Will my response be online? I checked my account and it doesn't appear that the letters have been translated yet. Thanks for the information.

Charlotte, I just saw your post and am wondering if you have had a letter from your sponsored child yet.  I noticed that you posted 6 months ago and thought by now you should have had some communication.  Please let us know.

Hi Chak! This is a great idea and actually something that we are working towards implementing in the future as we update the systems and processes that we are currently using. You can be looking forward to more electronic communication within the next couple of years! :)
