When I write my sponsored child, how long does it take for them to receive my letter? Is it faster when I write on the website?

It seems like it has been a long time since I've received a letter from my child, I want to know if he is doing well.

Hi Eric! I'm so sorry for any concern this has caused you! We are so grateful for the letters you have sent to your child already and I know he loves to hear from you! I merged your concern into this conversation as I'm hoping as you read through the posts, it will clarify our letter writing process a bit more for you and when you can expect to receive letters from your child.

I checked your account this morning and there is a letter in processing to you from P Induwara Deneth, your boy in Sri Lanka! We have not yet received this letter in our office in Colorado yet but once we process it through our system, we will put it in the mail to your home for you :). Thank you for your patience and for sending loving and encouraging letters to Induwara.

Emily, I'm sorry for the wait time to receive a response from Tuyizere. I know how eager you must be to hear back from him and I merged your concern into this conversation as others have had this question as well. It does take 2-3 months for letters to be delivered both ways and so it can take up to six months to receive a response to a letter you've written to your boy.

I just checked your account and we received a letter from our office in Rwanda yesterday that was written by Tuyizere for you! We are processing this letter through our office in Colorado and will have it in the mail to you in the next few days! You can look forward to getting this letter from Tuyizere very soon :). Thank you for your patience and for continuing to send him encouragement and love!

I live in the U.S., my child lives in Mexico. I have sent physical letters and also online letters. Which arrives faster? About how long does it take for them to reach my child? U.S. and Mexico are neighbors so I would hope they arrive sooner.

Hi Audrey! Great question! It typically takes about two to three months for letters (online or physical) to be delivered. When you send a letter online, we print it out in our USA office and send it in the mail. Your letter might go quicker to Mexico than other countries, because it is closer, however, it also depends on how far the area is from the country office in Mexico City. All of our centers are located in Southern Mexico and we do have some fairly rural areas represented. It could be that they only come to pick up letters once a month from the country office.

Is it acceptable to write a letter in English, translate  it to Hindi using translate.google.com, print out both English and Hindi version on one page and send it like that to the Compassion for appropriateness/grammar check? The Hindi letters are very peculiar and my kids would enjoy preparing letter with Hindi characters. None of us speaks Hindi, so, definitely, somebody needs to check if translation is accurate.

Hi there! How fun that your children want to get involved! :) I love that! The only thing about Google translate is that it's not always one hundred percent accurate and often times it doesn't translate into the correct dialect or use correct grammar as you mentioned. We normally don't recommend this because it must still go through our full translation process and be translated in the country. However, if you attach the English copy, it should be OK and I can see this being a fun opportunity for your children to connect with the kiddos you sponsor :).

This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled When did my child receive his first letter?.

Just curious - when did my child Alan (BR5450196) receive his first letter from me?  Today I got a wonderful letter from him dated Sep 1, 2016. :)  In his letter, he asked for pictures of me, so I assume that at that time he had not received his first letter from me yet.  Because it does not show on my online account whether letters have been delivered, I am just curious as to what the timeframe has been for my letters reaching Alan.  How many of my letters have been delivered as of now?  Thanks for your help!

Hi Mairi,
I am so happy to hear that you received your first letter back from Alan! Typically we see about 2-3 months between when we receive a letter from a sponsor, and when the child receives it. This does vary a bit depending on where the child lives and how remote their center is. Some centers are much harder to reach and often times the only way to get mail to them is by camel, elephant or boat. In these cases, it may take a little longer.
It is not uncommon that your child will write a letter to you before receiving your letter, because they do have specific days at the Compassion center that are used to help the children write letters. I would encourage the same on your end. You do not need to wait until you receive a reply to get another letter on its way. Currently, I only show the first letter to Alan in our system that you wrote back in June. If this does not match you records and you have written other letters, please let me know and I will be happy to see if there is an issue.
Additionally, we have recently made some great new updates to our letter writing system, which in the beginning slowed things down just a little. However, we are seeing the effects of the new system take effect and soon should see our letter processing time speed up significantly.
I hope this is helpful, Mairi! Please let me know if I can help any further!

This is actually the second letter I have received from Alan - the first was in July.  I have sent Alan six letters including the first one in June, and I can view all of them on my account.  I would appreciate it if you could check out why you are only showing one letter from me on your end.

Additionally, I should have 6 letters for Damini, 6 letters for Dayana, and 3 for Ximena. Thanks!

Mairi, I'm so sorry for the confusion about Alan's letters. I do actually see two letters from Alan in our system. Shannon was looking in our older system that isn't recording any new information because she doesn't yet have access to our new system, so she didn't realize there were two from Alan. I can also see all six letters that you wrote to him, the six you wrote to Damini and Dayana, and the three to Ximena :).

Hi Sarah, thanks for your reply!  I figured that it was something simple like that.  Is it possible to see how many letters have been delivered to Alan so far?

Mairi, sadly, we don't have access to see exactly when Alan received your letters. However, you can assume that each of your letters were delivered about 2-3 months after they were written. He will have at least received your first two letters and possibly four more that were written in October :).
