I know you have been getting tons of questions regarding Haitian children, but we are desperate to know if our sponsored child is safe. Is there any way to get more information?

I'd like to know how my little guy is doing as well; he is West of Port-au-Prince.  How can we find out how our sponsored children are doing?

Sarah, Do you have any more information on Frantz?  I know you said he was on the list but you didn't have much detail yet.  Thanks for checking!

Jane, I haven't seen an update come through fro Frantz yet. I don't know if they accidently placed him on the list or we just haven't received specific information on how he was affected yet. I will be watching him closely though and will let you know when I find something out!

Amy, as far as our information tells us, Renante has not been impacted by the hurricane. With staff continuing to check on children individually, it is possible that her name could end up on an updated list of children who were impacted. If that does happen, we will let you know as soon as we have the information available. Keep praying over her family!

I have two little girls in the Gonaives area and I believe they are fine...the sponsorship for them in through my church--missionaries in Haiti that our church partners with.  But, my little guy is in Leogane which is west of the capital.  I am worried for him.  Yes, your little guy is even more west of mine.  Leogane looks as if it is between Petit Goave and Port-au-Prince.

Waiting seems to be all I am doing right now. Waiting on Hurricane Matthew to arrive here and waiting for updates from Haiti. All we can do is wait and pray right now. It will take some time for communications to be restored and then no news is good news! If our children were effected by the hurricane they will notify us otherwise they will not. This is the most efficient way to handle this rather than contacting all sponsors. My thoughts and prayers are with Haiti, the Caribbean, and the southeastern US. God bless!

Heather, your Haiti kiddos are not currently on the list of those who were affected by the hurricane. That information could change, but we will let you know if it does. Thank you so, so much for continuing to pray over these precious families :).

Hi everyone! Thank you all so much for the love and concern you have for your kiddos. What a blessing you all are! What Heather said above is exactly right. We will contact all sponsors whose children were affected by the hurricane. We don't yet have information on specific children that have been affected by the hurricane in Haiti, but our staff is already on the ground checking on each child individually to assess their needs and provide support. Thank you so much for your continued prayers! I would also like to ask you all for prayers for our field staff as well. Sometimes the staff members themselves are in need. While our staff members are trying to address the immediate needs of our registered children, they also must take care of their own families and homes. Thank you again!

A.baker, I just wanted to check in with you again today, letting you know that your precious girl, Chisedalie, is still not listed as one of the children affected by the hurricane. As our staff continues to check on individual children, that could change. If it does, we will be sure to inform you as soon as the information becomes available! Keep praying over her community. Your post below shows so much love and compassion for her entire community, and I know your heart is aching over the losses that have happened in this cherished country.

Mitzi, I've been checking on the children for everyone who posted here and didn't want to leave you out. Sadly, I can't find your account with your name or email address. Do you have your boy's child ID available to give me so I can check on him for you?

Our sponsor child is in Port-au-Prince. The news reports for her area do not look positive by any means. Her dad was a farm worker (which means he wont have work for a very long time) and her parents have 6 kids total I believe and our girl is the only one sponsored in her family. She just had a bday in Aug and just received a mattress and calf, her whole family would benefit. Their community was still rebuilding.... now its all taken away. On top of a very small amount of possessions used for survival , many have lost loved ones that cannot be replaced. I cannot imagine what the people are going through. Some have such a strong faith in Jesus and some do not. My heart breaks for them!!! Then to think of the sickness and disease soon to follow. Its hard for most to understand even myself, but I'm trying. I have a small sense of the devastation and it kills me to think of it. God will hear their/our prayers, he will be there, he will help and protect. I imagine the crime will now go up as well. And all of us will act when we are told its time and can. I have very limited resources. I am saving it for my sponsor child and her family. Don't know if thats right or not but I feel God wants it reserved for them. I want them to know how much I am thinking of them, love them and that God is there and they are not forgotten. I think her families faith is strong, but I don't know. God has appointed each of us to be Haiti's prayer warriors. I wish I could go and be there right now, by their side and walk with them through this but that wouldn't help anything. All the things we take for granted are now gone... like clean water.

I too am concerned about the child I just sponsored, who lives in Nan Mango 20 Km S of Anne-a-Galets. Just read yesterday's paper that Jeremie Haiti listed 470 dead and this is the same area my child lives. Praying for him and his family as well as the compassion workers. I am praying it won't be long before we receive word on our sponsored children and their families.. God's word tells us not to worry so Heavenly Father take the worry away and let us remember that you are in charge and Romans 8:28 is something we need to remember. It is my go to when adversities arise in my life..

Susan, I can't imagine the worry and concern you have been feeling for your sweet boy, Ralph, knowing that his area was hit hard by the hurricane. I'm here to give you good news though! Ralph and his family are safe and still living in their home. It wasn't damaged, but they did lose some household items. Praise the Lord for his protection of this beautiful, loved family :)! Keep praying for him and for his community as I am sure they will be grieving the loss of precious people they loved.

So far, Angelica has not been on that list. If we receive an update that says she was affected, we will be sure to contact you as soon as the information is available to us. Hi Natalie! I am so sorry for the concern and confusion that this letter has most likely caused you. Regrettably, Clawens was affected by recent Hurricane Matthew when it passed over Haiti. The good news is that Clawens and his family are safe, but their home was damaged in the hurricane. He also lost some school supplies during the disaster. We sent that letter to you so that you would know how he was affected and to encourage you to continue praying over his family. Compassion is able to use disaster relief funds to help with any immediate needs he and his family have. During times like these, we also extend the opportunity for sponsors to bless their child's family with a monetary gift to help them get back on their feet after a natural disaster. You are in no way required to do so, we just wanted you to know that the opportunity is there :). Your sponsorship and love are such a blessing and encouragement to Clawens and his family, especially when they are going through something as scary and heartbreaking as a hurricane hitting their community. Thank you for all you do for Clawens! I did also check on Matha, but she is not currently on our list of affected children. If that changes as we continue to gather more information, we will let you know as soon as the information is available. Keep praying over these precious kids and their communities!

Please understand, my question was not having the ability to help my family out through this disaster, but two different types of disasters were listed in my letter from Compassion. The hurricane and an earthquake. I just wanted to make sure this was not a scam but an actual letter from Compassion and let you know of the discrepancy in the letter.
Thank you for getting back to me. We pray for our children through Compassion and want to help them in any way we can.
Blessings,
Natalie

Hi Natalie! It was an actual letter from our ministry, but it shouldn't have said anything about an earthquake. We did recently have an earthquake report coming from another country. It's possible your letter had that word accidentally inserted.

Hi Sarah, I got an email today about Michaella, and I have a few more questions. It said that her house was damaged- is there any info as to the extent of the damage or if they are able to still live in their house? The email also said that you would let me know when you had info about my other child. Michaella is my only Haitian child, so I was a little confused about this. I didn't know if maybe it was in regards to my DR girls? Thanks!

Hilary, I'm so sorry for the concern you must have for Michaëlla in Haiti and your girls in the Dominican Republic :(. As you know, her house has suffered some damage, but she is still living at home. Regrettably, we do not have additional specifics on the state of her house, but it must not be completely destroyed since she is still living at home. It is definitely a good sign that she has only lost school supplies and not more things. Also, the information we do have says that she is healthy. Praise God! As for the email referring to your other children, I can only assume that the email is talking about your Dominican Republic girls as well. Hopefully, we will have more information about them very soon! Thank you so much for all of your prayers for Michaëlla and your other precious girls.
