Hello, My daughter and I signed up over the weekend at a concert to sponsor a child.  How do I start?!?!  She is very excited to start this journey and has given up her monthly allowance to do this, and I want to write him soon, and his Birthday is later this month!!!!  We definatley want to at least get a Birthday card sent out.  Can you please help?  I'm just not sure where to start??

I'm not sure because I've never sponsored a child other than through the online website, but I think there's a way to sign up if the office has received the packet that you filled out. This may take a week or two though. Maybe someone can confirm this but I thought that once compassion received your information, they sent you an email with you sponsor number?
Anyway, even if your account isn't set up in time for his birthday you can still send him a birthday card for his once it is set up. Many of the children don't celebrate birthdays the same way we do and they could get a birthday card a whole six months after their actual birthday and they'd still be overjoyed that you cared!

Hi, Jennifer! I'm just another sponsor and don't work for Compassion, but I do a lot of volunteer work for them and am familiar with the packets new sponsors receive at concerts and the like. generally, if you don't take action yourself, you'll receive a packet of information within 15 days of the all the sponsored child information from the event being sent back to Compassion. In that packet of information, in addition to lots of nice info on the program and your kids community, family, etc you'll also receive a sponsor number. With that, you can go online and register for an online account where you can do all your managment conveniently online, includiong writing letters and sending pictures. HOWEVER, if you don't want to wait, just call the 800 number on the piece of the packet you took from the concert and they will be able to tell you your sponsor number once it gets in their system that your boy was picked up by you and your daughter. It won't be immeidate since they still have to receive and process the hardcopy paperwork, but it's faster than waiting for your info. Also, with the packet you received should've been a self-adressed envelope and a little first letter prompt card. You can go ahead and write on that, or write on your own paper and send it to Compassion in that envelope as soon as you want. If you opt to use your own paper, I'd probably still keep the prompt card with all the kids info on it in there just in case since you're working without less info than you'll eventually have (sponsor number). Just make sure to write the childs name and number on anything you put in there, and as soon as you're able to get your sponsor number, include that, too.

Hi Jennifer,  Congratulations on your sponsorship!  I am a sponsor, too, and I love it!  I have a pre-schooler I sponsor and since they are in Uganda the children learn English there and I am able to go to the dollar store and buy workbooks for pre-school.  I remove the covers and then put TO; Their name and number and From:  My name and number and mail it to the address in Colorado Springs for correspondence.  The dollar store sells many fun things for kids.  Keep in mind that everything is supposed to be paper.   In which country does your child live?

Thank you!!!  I will call them later to see what I can get started!  I have already started filling out the little thing that was inserted in the packet that we did receive at the concert.  Thank you so much!!!

If you have not mailed in the form yet from the concert you may be able to go online to their website and find the child and fill out the sponsorship online. I am not sure how that works and I am also new (and extremely excited), I have only signed up online as well, maybe something to try though.

They took all of the information at the concert.
