I was so excited to find a letter from sweet little Lea in my mailbox this weekend. I wasn't expecting one so soon. I began sponsoring her in early March. Does this mean she already received my first letter? Or was this a letter that was already written and just waiting to be sent once she was sponsored. Either way, I'm tickled pink. I wrote her a brief online letter when I sponsored her, but have a nice introductory package ready to go in the mail.

Hi Sally! Congratulations! I am also a new sponsor and I was so excited like you to get my first letter! I got a letter about the same amount of time as you did after I started sponsoring. I think I read somewhere that the very first letters are already in Colorado ready to send to the sponsors and I know that it takes 2-3 months either way for letters so that must be the case. Like you said, though, it's very exciting to get that letter and hear from your child and learn about them. My sponsored child is an amazing little artist and she colored the best ladybug picture that I have ever seen. You know, and I told my sponsored child this, just a couple of days before I received that letter I was praying for God to encourage me and He used her letter to do that. I have been encouraged by the Bible verse that was in that letter nearly every day since then. I will share it here so that others might be encouraged also. It's Isaiah 54:17, "No weapon that is formed against you will prosper; And every tongue that accuses you in judgment you will condemn." And I have to remind myself of that verse all the time because we have an enemy who does not like us preaching Jesus' love into the hearts of these precious kids.

Just wait until you get a chance to visit your sponsor kids.Sally, you think your tickled pink now? Great verse Adam. That's surely God speaking to you through a child. Jeremiah 1:5 was given to me by one of my sponsor kids. I've read it before but this time it spoke to me in such a way it revealed to me God had me separated to Himself all of my life even when I didn't believe in Him.
She also gave me Isaiah 6:8,send me. The verse your sponsor child gave you really spoke to me too.

Thanks Adam;  that is what I thought. My sweel girl's intro letter had a pencil drawing on it too. But I never would've guessed what it was if there hadn't been a note explaining. LOL! She just turned 5 and I suspect these children don't have easy access to writing and art supplies in there homes. It will be very exciting to watch how her letters/art progress as she gets older.

William, I doubt that I will ever get to visit Rwanda, but you never know...

That's right Sally, you never know. Another verse a sponsor child gave me is Revelation 3:8. I know your works. See,I have set before you an open door, and no one can shut it,for you have a little strength, have kept My word, and have not denied My name.

Now I give you Isaiah 6:8. After a few letters you'll look for a way to go. I did. Three group tours and three individual visits in four years. God sure did send me. LOL

That is fantastic William! I am certain if it is meant for me to go that God will make a way. I do struggle a little with the thought of spending that much money on a trip for me to visit my child vs using it to sponsor additional children.  But again I think that God will direct me. So much good comes from the trips that people are able to go on.

William, thank you so much for sharing these verses! I imagine you have some amazing stories to tell from all of those trips! Sally, my child is also five years old but I really was not exaggerating about her coloring ability. :) Her drawing is actually amazingly good. Her name is Ana and she lives in Colombia. I would absolutely love for my wife and I to go to see her and her family in Colombia. When I first started sponsoring and I heard about the trips I had exactly the same thought about spending money on a trip as you mentioned, Sally. That, if I had the money, it would be better to give the money to help more children instead of spending it on a trip. But over the past few months God has shown me in so many different ways that He is not limited by anything as to what He can do through us and what He can do in our lives. My wife and I are expecting a baby girl next month and four months ago we did not have maternity insurance coverage for her and we did not even have close to what we needed to pay for the delivery. I knew that if God had given us a child that He would provide for it's delivery I just didn't see how it was possible, but I have watched God work miracle after miracle to provide for our every need over these past few months. I have lost track of how many times God has come through for us in an amazing way to provide for us. We found maternity insurance that was just a little over what we were already paying and God has given us more than we need for this baby and we have more in savings now than we have had in years. Almost every single one of our bills has been reduced or eliminated and I cannot even explain it, but the more we have given to God and turned our lives over to Him the more He has poured out His blessings. I could write for hours about how faithful God is, but I really just wanted to say that to say this. I don't look at money the same way anymore. If God wants us to do something or if He wants us to sponsor more kids or to send us somewhere or whatever it is then He will make a way, just like you said Sally. God spoke the Earth into existence and He can provide for all of our needs in the blink of an eye out of thin air and He will if we trust in Him and seek first His kingdom and His righteousness. I am also praying that God would direct me in every area of my life and I know that if He wants me to go to Colombia to see my sponsored child then He will provide for it, and I believe that will happen because the Bible says that if we delight ourselves in the Lord then He will give us the desires of our heart. I'm sorry to be so long-winded on here! I just get excited and I had been thinking a lot about that so I guess all the talk about going on a trip struck a chord with me. It is very nice to meet both of you and the faith that both of you have is very encouraging.

God is so good! Wonderful testimony. Thanks for sharing. God has shown you that He will provide. We all know that as Christians, but when we EXPERIENCE it in a tangible way, then we "get it." God bless you and your precious family.

Hi Adam.First, congratulations for your baby girl you and your wife are expecting. The most amazing thing happened for me on the Bolivia sponsor tour in 2012.At the end of the day we were at an ice cream shop with our sponsor kids and translators. After exchanging gifts my sponsor child Daysi started crying and got out of her chair and just grabbed onto me and telling me how much she loves me and did the same for my translator.I was stunned to say the least. When it was time to get back on the bus she ran to me and grabbed onto me again.

I received a letter from her a few months later and here are her exact words.God sent me an angel and that angel was you.In most of her letters she talks about that day and how special is was to her.So if God ever moves you to go on a sponsor tour or individual visit go for it.You'll know if the time comes. As for sponsoring more kids you'll do that for sure.Just make sure you let God pick you the right one.

Thank you, William! My wife and I have a son and so I was praying for a daughter and I feel like, in a way, God gave me two. That is such a cool story! Thank you for sharing it. It sounds like that was a life changing event for you that you will never forget. That makes me want to go on a visit now even more!

Look what I got started. If you do go you will see the impact you are having in their lives. It's like Paul wrote about sowing the seed and others water the seed and God gives the increase. God is actually using us to sow and the impact spreads beyond the sponsor child and family. The whole community is changed.

One of my sponsor kids graduated in Nicaragua last year and the community she lives in works together to improve everything there. Crime decreases along with poverty. When a new sponsor child's behavior improves because of the program the family sees it and so does everyone else. There's your 30,60,100 fold return.

Next time your on the Compassion website click on the Youtube icon and look for the video of former president Wess Stafford titled Acknowledge Him In All Your Ways. Amazing how they got started in Nicaragua and Ecuador. And about a 6 year old boy who led 60 other kids to Jesus before he died.

I just received my first letter! It seems unlikely the letter travels from Rwanda to Colorado to Southeast Asia in about a month. Could the letter have been pre-written without the child knowing the actual sponsor?

Yes, usually a letter is on file so that the sponsor receives one quickly.
