Was this a child sponsored through an event? It's possible your packet had expired before Compassion received the information and that would be why someone else was able to sponsor the child.
One of the social media team will be able to assist you after the weekend. They may have some insight into what happened and why.

Brenda, I am researching this situation further. It looks like your sponsorship was officially started at the end of November. There was a sponsor who was going to meet this child while in Nicaragua for a sponsor tour. At first glance, it looks like maybe there was some confusion with our field office about the fact that this child had been sponsored shortly before the tour the first week of December. Therefore this child was offered for sponsorship to a sponsor on the tour who met her. Please know that this is not our standard procedure and we actually have measures in place to try to avoid double sponsorship. I am so sorry that this happened to you.

Then recently, a different child that you were sponsoring was found to have duplicate numbers in our system meaning that he had been sponsored twice. Again, we really try to make sure this does not happen, but on a rare occasion there may be errors in our records. We regularly review our records which is when we discovered the duplicate numbers. We removed the child number that you were sponsoring under because it was the most recent. Again, we are very sorry for this error, especially because you had already experienced another uncommon issue with sponsorship just a few months prior.
